#HautePicks: The #HauteSquad Goes Ethnic This Festive Season

As we’ve mentioned before, the #HauteSquad is a bunch of stylish girls who love all things fashion, beauty, and sassy. We’re constantly sharing our latest buys and obsessions with each other, and now, we’re letting you into our HQ too! Every week, Team Hauterfly will share its current obsession — and tell you where you can buy it too! #BFFGoals.

The festive season is upon us and we couldn’t be more excited. This is the #HauteSquad’s favourite time of the year (except, of course, each of our birthdays!). And how cool is it that Hauterfly’s birthday falls bang centre of this fun season? So to commemorate the string of upcoming holidays, we’re picking our fave ethnic wear ensembles this week. We’re sure gonna be dressing up and flaunting our #DesiGirl sides — what about you?

Embroidered Pantsuit

Embroidered Pantsuit

“I love Gaurav Gupta’s edgy clothing. He gives a seriously sexy spin to both western and Indian silhouettes, and my pick this festive season is this embroidered pant suit. It’s the perfect fusion wear for a desi do, especially if, like me, you don’t love wearing straight-up ethnic clothing and can’t handle dupattas without stumbling all over them!”

Chiffon Sari

Chiffon Sari

“I’m a saree girl all the way — I’m Bengali, after all. Not only can I carry off a saree well (so modest), I can drape it pretty well too. So my go-to ethnic pick for any desi occasion is a saree. My taste in sarees, though, is fairly simple — I prefer bright colours, fewer prints, and a flattering fall. Which is why chiffon is my fave sari fabric. It’s lightweight, soft, and falls so delicately, hugging my curves just right — so sensuous! My pick for this year’s Diwali party is this simply, sexy bright orange chiffon sari from Limeroad. The gold border adds just the right amount of bling, and yet is subtle and classy. Instead of wearing it with a gold or orange blouse, I’d pair it with a contrasting hue — I’m thinking a hot pink or royal blue blouse. Plus, look how cheap! Shall we start the photo ops?”

Silk Cotton Kurta

Silk Cotton Kurta

“Any outfit that has the potential of emanating a bohemian vibe is certain to catch my eye. Which is simply why this bright-red (oh-so-festivey!) silk-cotton long kurta from Fab India caught my fancy at first glance. I’d totally team it with a pair of comfy culottes to get the ultimate boho-chic vibe, and the colour does complete justice if you dare to wear it at a wedding, even! Just don’t forget a few precious jewels to team it with and make some eyes pop. *winks*”

Net Sequinned Cape

“I try to avoid going down the salwar kameez/saree route as often as I can, especially come festive season — I usually look for fun alternatives that don’t make me feel older than my years. This gorgeous cape from The Secret Label ticks all the boxes: it’s fun, flirty, and formal! I can even pair it with a jumpsuit or jeans when I feel like dressing it down. Plus, who can say no to sequins? WHO?”

“I seldom wear Indian wear, but when I do wrap my brain around wearing something ethnic, there’s only one brand I fall back on — The Lil Black Bow! With dreamy hues and vintage designs, this brand never fails to impress me! I hate going #OTT with my look, and this beautiful, whimsical lehenga from this brand just fits right in with my aesthetic.”

“I am that rare girl (right?) who loves her ethnic outfits more than the western ones! If I could, I would dress up in a saree or a patiala every day. But, right now, I’m eagerly waiting for traditional day at work! For this festive season, I have my eyes on this gorgeous sea-green lehenga that is simple yet elegant. The subtle gold gota work makes the outfit really stand out. That’s how I roll — soft soothing colours and minimalist embroidery.”

Embellished Sari_HautePicks_Hauterfly
Embellished Mirror-Work Sari

Embellished Saree

“To be honest, my wardrobe selection for ethnic wear is quite limited — but the pieces I do own are pretty one-of-a-kind and not too OTT. I like an element of fusion in whatever I choose to wear during the festivities, and so I try to go for simple yet contemporary chic. I confess that I have only worn a saree once in my life and, although I struggled with the pleats initially, I think there’s nothing more elegant than a beautifully draped saree. Going traditional yet modern (I know, ironic, right?) I love this piece by AMORI. It’s got that beautiful authentic essence, yet gives it out in a very ‘modern’ vibe. It’s simple and chic, and the mirror work on the beige cloth just brings out that desi vibe. Whether it’s a silk choli or a satin blazer, this saree gives out a very fashionista flair!”

“Festivals in India are all about vibrancy and, when it comes to ethnic wear, I choose to experiment with bright hues. I have my heart set on this phulkari lehenga from Purple Panchi. The fuchsia pink silk blouse is the highlight of this ensemble, and the beige lehenga compliments the green dupatta perfectly. Just a pair of gold jhumkas and you’re all set to get heads turning!”

“I usually go for lightweight fabrics with smaller prints or embellishments — considering my heavy physique, the drapes fall better. So when I started looking for my perfect ethnic ensemble for the season, I stumbled upon this elegant piece by Manish Malhotra. It’s modern, it’s ethnic, it’s a light fabric, and it’s elegant. What else could I ask for? It’s the perfect match to give this festive season a fashionable twist.”
