#HauteHack: Deodorize Your Garments Using Vodka

I love Pinterest. Not only because I get to scan the best style inspiration from all over the web, but also because I discover so many cool hacks to make my life simpler everyday. A common problem I face, especially when I use local transport, is having to remove all kinds of odours from my clothes. Also, certain delicate garments shouldn’t be washed all the time (that’s one way to increase the life of your clothes). Then there’s my pet peeve: detergent smell. It’s a situation I’ve faced often: I run out of fabric conditioner, and I’m way too lazy to run to the store and get some and end up washing my clothes minus the conditioner. That smell post wash is not my favourite thing in the world. I definitely need something to deodorize them.

So recently, I discovered this cool hack that removes all kinds of nasty smells from your garments in a matter of minutes. What’s more, it’s so simple and easy on my pocket. If you have a bar at home stocked with vodka, trust me you’re sorted!

Bet you didn’t know there was more you could do with vodka apart from drinking it! Vodka is a natural deodorizer for garments. And the cheaper the bottle, the better. Here’s how you can get funky odours off your garment in minutes:

Step 1:

Mix some water and vodka in a spray bottle. Make sure the ratio of vodka is about 60-70% in comparison to water.

Step 2:

Place the garment you want to deodorize on a hanger.

Step 3:

Spray the vodka mixture on the area that you want to deodorise. Spritz it generously then let it dry in a well-ventilated area. Vodka helps to kill bacteria, and also clings to the odour-causing substance in your garment. As the alcohol evaporates, it eliminates the odour along with it. So simple!
