The Filmfare Glamour And Style Awards Was A Mix Of Highs And Lows And We Don’t Like Being Played Like That

“The category is, Red Carpet Extravaganza!”- RuPaul’s Drage Race

The sixth edition of  The Filmfare Glamour And Style Awards 2019 saw many Bollywood celebrities walking the red carpet. While we are still pondering on what their many categories of awards actually mean, one thing’s for sure…this was one of most conflicting awards-show red carpets we have seen all year. Usually, there is a kind of consistency in the looks that we see on one particular night. They are ether fabulous (like the GQ Best Dressed night), or an overall underwhelming collection of safe and repetitive silhouettes. But last night’s carpet decided to play with our feelings a little because it got us super excited with some of the best ensembles we’ve seen all year, and immediately gut-punched us with bizarre looks to shake us back to reality.

Here are all the highs and lows from last night’s carpet!

Amyra Dastur

Ugh, Amyra Dastur looks like such a dream in this Michael Cinco butterfly gown, we are gagging! From the hair to the shoes and the soft light makeup, this is one of our favourite red carpet looks of not just last night, but this year. This is a dress that stars in our dream sequences about an opulent ball, we are SO glad that it exists in reality.

Anushka Sharma

Anushka is having a moment with puff sleeves and we honestly have no complaints. The leggy beauty did yet another great statement sleeves ensemble with this Marmar Halim crushed beige number. Covered from head to toe in a delicious highlighter, we love how *extra* this look is!

Diana Penty

The luxe of Alina Anwar Couture is undeniable and they have managed to bring yet another Bollywood star out of their shell. This is the first time we have seen Diana in something so experimental, but boy did she slay on the carpet last night.

Rakul Preet Singh

Rakul is slowly becoming one of our favourite style stars to watch on the carpet. She is becoming somewhat of an award show fashion assassin, bringing great looks consistently. Heaven knows we love a keyhole neck and this gown from Dany Atrache Couture is just so pretty.

Ankita Lokhande

A bit late to the party but Ankita made an unexpected turn for the better with her red carpet style last night. This is such an effortlessly charming look. And with that updo, she looks like she’s time travelled from a 90s red carpet and we love feeling nostalgic like that.

Not In Their Element…

Alia Bhatt

We have often spoken about the disconnect that exists between glamorous shots of celebrities that are done pre-event and their actual ensembles on the carpet. Alia is one of the key suspects for that. Her fashion game fumbles every time she steps in front of the cameras on the carpet, and last night’s Celia Kritharioti gown was no different. We don’t like how you can see through the skirt when it’s not intended as such.

Ananya Panday

Ananya, honey, please get a new stylist! The girl is stunning, with a versatile face and frame. She should not be dressed in a YSL-rip off dress from I Love Pretty (and we thought they were cool!). At least pick a dress that fits correctly, cause that one looks seemingly tight for her.

Malaika Arora

The fact that Malaika looks so uncomfortable in this ensemble should be indicative enough of why it’s so wrong for her. The Atelier Zuhra number looks like it’s two different gowns mashed into one, it made us go “Whut?”

Kiara Advani

It is such a downer when a great sheer gown moment is wasted on improper underwear. We have seen Bollywood stylists struggle with properly styling sheer panelled gowns, with shapewear always visible when it’s not supposed to be. Just don’t wear a sheer panelled gown if you don’t want to risk the strategic skin show. Kiara Advani’s mermaid gown is a victim of a confusing design and well, we are not impressed.

Adah Sharma

A half-and-half tulle gown/bodycon dress, paired with bondage jewellery and a couple of cornrows. Need we say more?

Daisy Shah

OMG, NOOOOOOOO!!! There is absolutely nothing right about Dasiy Shah’s outfit, makeup or hair. And those toes look like they are about to escape that shoe prison, honey!
