Deepika Padukone’s Outfit Is Eerily Similar To Sonam Kapoor’s Cannes Look. A Case Of Copying Or Just Inspiration?

Friday has come early this week and it brought with itself a treat! We love a good mystery and this new one involving Deepika Padukone’s mysterious outfit has gotten us hooked. While the story is still developing, we decided to play Nancy Drew and jump in it ourselves for a bit. This is a story involving two fashionable divas, a pair of white tuxedos and a whole lotta shade!

Deepika Padukone was recently featured in a Tanishq jewellery ad, launching their newest collection Ahalya. While the advert itself is picturesque, one of the outfits from the release pictures looked eerily similar to Sonam’s Ralph & Russo Cannes 2019 look.

Now here’s the deal, celebrities turn up in similar outfits all the time. It usually involves them wearing outfits from designers that have similarities in prints, silhouettes or sometimes even embellishments. We love it when a great fashion face-off moment occurs. It gives us an opportunity to explore the different ways a certain style can look on different people and that’s always fun!

We didn’t think much about it and moved on since there isn’t much to break down in a plain white plunge tuxedo. That brings us to today when the good people over at Diet Sabya pointed out the missing wardrobe courtesy from Deepika’s stylist Shaleena Nathani’s page. That is quite odd since they always tag the designers, no matter what. It is something that we love in established stylists, they always let us in on the deets!

What further fueled our curiosity was the comments left on the post. The comments read like, “Sonam’s 2019 Cannes look with the Bvlgari emeralds”, and “Some “inspired” version of the original @ralphandrusso”. We certainly get the comparison but to hint at the outfit might be a rip-off might be pre-emptive. People also seemed to be under the impression that the outfit is from designer Nikhil Thampi, who provided one of the outfits from the advert. But the white plunge tuxedo on Deepika does not feature in the ad, check it out:

While we can’t see the whole outfit on Deepika, some of the statement features of the jacket do match. The deep plunge, cinched waist, collar design and the general fit. It doesn’t help that the accessories and hair are similar as well. While we still would like to wait for more details to come out before settling the argument, one thing is for sure – people really need to stop photoshopping actresses’ features to this extent. A knock-off outfit or not, the photoshop job on Deepika’s nose is enough to turn us off from these campaign images. Let us know what you think!
