Deepika Padukone’s Neon Look Burned Our Eyes. We Think Kiara Advani And Malaika Arora Wore It Better
2019 has been a whirlwind of unlikely trends taking centre stage. We may have not loved all of them, but celebrities are starting to experiment and we are taking notes on how to wear a trend. From the bohemian favourite tie-dye making a resurgence to the perplexing love bike shorts that are a rage (alarming, frankly), it has been an exciting/confusing time. One trend that is gathering momentum is neon but we are thinking this might be getting a little out of hand.
The neon trend itself is OTT in nature. That poses the question: can you overdo a trend that is already the loud and out there? Turns out, you can. Deepika Padukone recent airport look in head to toe bright lime green neon burned our eyes and we are worried that she may have gone overboard.
Before we say anything, let’s have a moment of silence for the corneas of the photographers present at the scene, because boy that’s flashy! The bright separates are from Off-White, a brand that has slathered Deepika in their signature neon just recently as well.
Albeit toned down and uber chic, the actress relied heavily on this hue for her Cannes appearances. Her show-stopping red carpet gown was a tulle extravagance from Giambattista Valli.
Because she nailed at the Cannes, Deepika could have been tempted to go all out and try this long coat and pants ensemble at the airport. While we love the fact that she is willing to take fashion risks, the separates together and no neutralising colour in the ensemble is just a lot. We don’t believe these singular items were supposed to styled this way since a bright neon piece needs a solid counterpart to make it easier on the eyes.
Some darker sneakers and tanks maybe? This look from Deepika was just overwhelming. A monotone lime green number we saw on someone and being pulled off extremely well was Malaika Arora Khan for an award show.
The custom separates were made much subtler with highlighter heels and tan makeup. The missing blouse made it quite raw as well, a character we love in Malaika’s style. Having said that, we still think that for us mere mortals, breaking down neon is the best way to do the trend like Kiara Advani does here.
Paper bags pants or a sheer skirt in muted shades is the way we would choose to do neon, especially the lime green variety. Pair it up with some warm hues to create a beautiful contrast and nobody has to be blinded by camera flashes ever again!
