On closer inspection of Deepika Padukone’s recent sartorial outings, I failed to find a single ensemble that she wore and did not quite nail it. Deepika’s noteworthy looks run the gamut from her on-duty movie promotion style to red carpet rendezvous. Not to forget, she has even given us some covetable looks while running across airport terminals or when she’s off on a casual outing. I’ve lost count of the number of style lessons she’s imparted to us: rocking an unexpected party outfit by teaming stripes with shimmer, adding a fun element to a structured blazer by pairing it with a funky-printed pair of jeans, styling a pair of culottes with a sleek sleeveless gilet; I can go on. Maybe I should jot down her style files, don’t you think?

At a recent event, Deepika maintained her stylish status quo, and this time she meant business. In an attempt to prove how a boardroom-appropriate ensembles can also be fashion forward, Deepika teamed a structured cape blazer with a pair of trousers from ASOS, and a tank top from Marks & Spencer. She completed her look with stud earrings from Outhouse and a pair of sky-high Louboutin pumps. Her ensemble was true to her head-to-toe monotone signature, and that’s not something I can grudge — yet. She works it like a pro, and ensures that the styling is neither boring nor repetitive.

As far as this look is concerned, Deepika demos how it’s completely okay to add a pop of colour to your work wear. In fact, she even inspires us to quit the regular 9-to-5 suit and opt for a top-notch cape blazer. Just when you thought capes would replace jackets only till fall ended, Burberry and Osman’s Spring Summer 2016 collections came along with proof that this chic garment will be a head-turner in the coming season as well.
