Actually, going monotone in any shade can be tricky. Especially black because it can go very wrong, very quickly. This is an old trick in the book of fashion, throw in a statement accessory to add a talking point to a one-colour ensemble. Usually, monotone outfits do well with a lighter accessory, just for a change. But Deepika’s trick lies in committing to it fully and she usually adds statement accessory(ies) instead. It’s usually her big travel totes, a pair of sassy shades or both.

Playing With Genres

Monotone became a thing after celebs started wearing those delicious power suits in a single shade. Sure most of her all-black ensembles are made up of smart silhouettes, but she adds variety to it by mixing genres. A plain black tee, highly distressed jeans and sleek toes… that is a lot of risk taking but she knows how to work it.

Layering your outfit is an established styling tip to enhance the look of an outfit. But when Deepika ventures into a dark monotone, she picks uneven layers to keep people guessing. One of the reasons we think Deepika loves doing all-black because they can be worn repeatedly, with just small superficial changes.
