Deepika Padukone Shows You How To Do All-Black Everything Without Looking Like You’re Going To Rob A Bank
Deepika Padukone does her research well. The actress and her styling team are aces at picking up on fashion trends she can sport with ease. Her entire Cannes lookbook was a lesson in how to do neon and now she has moved on another trendy styling choice… all-black-everything. The thing with this look is, you might look like you are planning to rob a bank, albeit stylishly.
Actually, going monotone in any shade can be tricky. Especially black because it can go very wrong, very quickly. All black outfits can make you look flushed, the details of individual pieces can get lost in the tone. But if you know the trick to do all black right, boy, it look badass. Deepika seems to be a sucker for the look, she has been going for the pure monotone or something in a similar vein a lot lately. But what’s the catch? All of them look poles apart. Here are the major style points that we noticed and have taken notes of!
Token Black Accessory
This is an old trick in the book of fashion, throw in a statement accessory to add a talking point to a one-colour ensemble. Usually, monotone outfits do well with a lighter accessory, just for a change. But Deepika’s trick lies in committing to it fully and she usually adds statement accessory(ies) instead. It’s usually her big travel totes, a pair of sassy shades or both.
Playing With Genres
Monotone became a thing after celebs started wearing those delicious power suits in a single shade. Sure most of her all-black ensembles are made up of smart silhouettes, but she adds variety to it by mixing genres. A plain black tee, highly distressed jeans and sleek toes… that is a lot of risk taking but she knows how to work it.
Layering your outfit is an established styling tip to enhance the look of an outfit. But when Deepika ventures into a dark monotone, she picks uneven layers to keep people guessing. She’s either has her usual leather jacket go past her blouse or she pairs a short blouse with a long sweatshirt. It’s never the traditional way of wearing layers.
What do you get when you mix a pair of fitted high waisted jeans, suede ankle boots, smart cardigan and a woolly coat? This fabulous outfit! Opting for different fabrics and textures in individual pieces of an ensemble will make each pop, holding their own instead of flopping into one rather staid outfit. We especially love this for a night out.
One of the reasons we think Deepika loves doing all-black because they can be worn repeatedly, with just small superficial changes. We have seen those sturdy boots paired with a number of outfits. That high neck cardigan is no stranger to us as well. Wouldn’t it be great to stock up on a collection of good quality black fashion items and mix & match?
Deepika Padukone will be next seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak and alongside hubby Ranveer Singh in ’83.
