While Deepika Made For A Beautiful Showstopper For AJSK, We Expected Aishwarya Or Sonam To Do The Honours

Noted Indian designer label Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla celebrated 33 years in fashion with a glamorous show last night. In addition to debuting their new menswear label MARD, the evening consisted of a couture presentation, an amalgamation of their creative signatures and chops. Full with Anarkalis, touches of neon and monochrome, the high-energy choreographed show was a good representation of the label’s ‘Larger Than Life’ legacy and presence. The spectacle pulled all stops on the extravagance, with queen bee Deepika Padukone turning showstopper for the night. While the actress was her usual graceful self, we did not expect to see the leggy beauty make an appearance on this particular night!

Being in the industry for over 30 years, AJSK has ‘been there and done ALL that’! Starting out with clients like Jaya Bachchan and Dimple Kapadia way back then, the label has been worn by many, worldwide.

The label is known for fusing Indian craftsmanship and textile with ‘worldly’ tailoring and silhouettes. Their muses have been of similar caliber as well, both classic and contemporary actresses have been associated with them at one point or another. Having said that, we did expect to see other faces, unique to AJSK, to close their show last night! Deepika herself has worn the label on many occasions, but she is definitely not the first leading lady we’d associate with the label. We were totally prepared to see either Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Sonam Kapoor walk down in a fabulous AJSK creation for the big day!

With Aishwarya, the label has enjoyed many moments of cultural importance. From dressing her In National Award-winning costumes for Devdas, to being her ‘shaadi ka joda‘, AJSK and Ash go way back! The entirety of the Bachchan clan has been long associated with the label, for personal occasions and others. Aishwarya wore the label multiple times at Cannes and Shweta Bachchan got married in one, the couturiers are almost like family for the Bachchans. We can only imagine a resplendent Ash walking down the runway to epitomize this long-standing collaboration!

As for AJSK’s modern muse Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, this fashion girl has been the face of the label’s indulgent glamour for a long time. The designer duo loves Sonam more than just as an A-lister wearing their designs. This fact is fairly evident in the way her wedding lehenga was made and fitted for her by them. Another go-to Cannes favourite for Sonam as well, AJSK knows how to bring out the best in these women and we are obsessed with it. Sonam has turned showstopper for them many times over the years and it is always a joy to see her in her element. Given that the label was celebrating 33 years in the industry, we were confused with the choice for showstopper but Deepika looked like a vision and we ain’t complaining!

Is Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla saving these beauties for a 44 or 50- year celebratory show? We certainly hope so!
