3 Fashion Moments From Critics’ Choice Awards 2020 That Had Us Absolutely Floored

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are annual accolades that are awarded to the best of cinema in a year. It is highly regarded as one of the most prestigious awards among actors since it is voted on and awarded by critics working in the industry. As such, it is the antithesis of a “popular choice award” and sought-after by performers who want their craft to be noticed. It is also one of the most fashionable events of the year, with celebrities willing to experiment more given the tone of the event.

Thus, the fashion moments spotted from last night that made us looking up ‘fainting couches’ on Amazon. We’d order it, get it delivered at work, look at Zendaya’s outfit and right away faint with the dramatic flair fitting a bored Victorian housewife. So without further ado, let’s dive right into it.

Warrior Woman

How is it possible for such a young person to have this kind of influence on modern fashion as 23-year old Zendaya does? Anything she does on a red carpet and off it, becomes something to talk over drinks instantly. One of the best actor-stylist collaborations I have ever seen, Daya and Law Roach managed to create yet another knock-out look. The girl literally posed for pictures in a warrior woman breastplate. This was paired with a maxi skirt and the whole outfit was created specifically for her by metal artists for Tom Ford.

The breastplate comes as yet another entrant in the ‘Wearable Sculpture’ wave in fashion. Created by Raven Kauffman and Michael Schmidt Studios, it is proof that the future of fashion lies in the collaboration of artists of different kind of industries looking for innovation in aesthetic. We love everything about this!

Beyond Body Paint

Quick anecdote: I recently had a boy colleague at work ask me about Billy Porter and why he’s basically everywhere. I was honestly at a loss of words trying to explain just what this man is and represents and blurted out “He’s the biggest ally of feminine energy there ever was”.

The man (Billy Porter, not my colleague) has spent his life re-inventing what fashion can mean to queer people and men in general. Constantly pushing the boundaries of “acceptable” red carpet style, Porter dealt CCA’s shutterbugs with a custom seafoam jumpsuit and painted on butterflies on his torso and arms that seem to defy all reason. He was also seen strutting in custom Coach boots and warrior-like jewels from Lynn Ban. Can he BE any more *extra*?

Anne In Versace

Barely weeks after having her second baby, Anne Hathaway made this glamorous outing on the blue carpet last night. Looking like a goddess in a hand-embroidered atelier gown by Versace, Anne’s boldness for not going for a safe option and instead, being her fabulous OTT self is the reason why we love her. Drenched in luxurious jewels and armed with a cool gold-toned structural clutch, the new mommy was absolutely glowing on at the event.
