The Ladies At Umang 2020 Were In Lehengas And Sarees While The Men Showed Up In Tees And Cargo Pants. Matlab Theme Kya Tha?

By  |

There’s a reason why we get apprehensive to talk about Bollywood’s red carpet events. Except from fashion events, most of them confuse us with their vague themes. The style staples are all there…thigh-high slits, statement sleeves, and sexy décolletages. Some of the boys also do well in their sharp suiting, unless you are Ranveer Singh and are in a neon skirt, then it gets at least a little exciting. But the fact that we even spot these staples is a testament to how rare we see our fashion girls getting creative with their looks. And when we do see some fabulous looks, their shine is dimmed with the rest of the attendees missing out on the style memo. Is there some communication problem in Bollywood? Can someone confirm?

While we wait on some scoop, the recent red carpet event that was once again perplexing for us came from Umang 2020, a night of glamour arranged by the Mumbai Police. While the ladies showed up in OTT ethnic numbers, the men kept it ridiculously casual in printed tees and faded jeans. I mean, we are so lost.

The night saw many saree moments that we loved. Priyanka Chopra Jonas chose an indigo blue Ekaya Banaras for Masaba Gupta saree and looked very pretty with the simple styling. Two other drapes caught our attention for being both stylish and true to the essence of the evening. Katrina Kaif in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla…

…and Diana Penty in an Akanksha Gajria tie-dye sequinned saree:

The ensembles that we thought were NOT deliciously OTT and belonged at a friend’s sangeet came in the form of heavy lehengas and a lazily draped saree.

While the girls threw a few curveballs to us with their many lehengas, the boys got us completely turned off with their lazy ensembles. Varun Dhawan came donned a head-to-toe camo outfit…

…and Kartik Aaryan in jeans and a tee:

Uhm, what? We are so bored of seeing the girls going through the whole rigmarole of styling, hair, and makeup while the men show up looking like “bros”. Dear men, please catch up no?
