The Celebrity-Approved Way To Rock A Power Suit
The pant suit is a “borrowed from the boys” trend that has seriously changed the outfit game for women. This matching separates combo makes for one seriously chic and cohesive look that spells power in every seam. It’s no wonder that it has attained power dressing status in every #GirlBoss’s wardrobe.
Wearing a pant suit in Woman Of The Year, Katherine Hepburn showed us that it wasn’t just a man’s prerogative. And in 1966, Yves Saint Laurent gave it a sexy spin with his iconic creation, the Le Smoking suit. Today, the pant suit is not just limited to a 9-to-5 look but has also doubled up as appropriate clothing for more formal soirées. And that is also why celebrities are now making a strong case for this androgynous trend.
In the recent past, we’ve noticed a host of Bollywood celebrities favouring the pant suit for various occasions. Scroll on to see who made the cut!
1. ADITI RAO HYDARI
If there’s one Bollywood star who has proved her aptitude for fashion, it’s Aditi Rao Hydari. We’ve seen how effortlessly she can switch a desi avatar for something edgier. And that’s also why we named her one of the style stars to watch in 2016. One of her standout looks this year is this white pant suit, which she wore to the Filmfare Pre-Awards Party. Giving the usual cocktail gown a miss, Aditi confidently walked the red carpet in this Encrustd suit and shirt and owned it! She completed this flawless look with a pair of large drop earrings from Maithili Kabre Jewellery and nude sandals. Be it the hair or the make-up, she nailed the look in totality. This is also a lesson on how to ace a monochrome look to perfection!
2. ESHA GUPTA
Esha Gupta shut down all naysayers who think a pant suit is dull, boring or black. If this ensemble is not what a chic look is about, I have no idea what is. Teaming a green Plakinger pant suit with a white tank top, Esha manages to stand out in a crowd of sameness. Accessorising with black pumps from Dune, tasselled earrings by Ritika Sachdeva and a Fendi clutch, the memo for this look was quite clear: sharp and striking. Are you a self-nominated fashion rebel? Then this look deserves to be tested as workwear!
3. SONAM KAPOOR
Now we don’t really have to repeat this, but we will: Sonam Kapoor is fashion blue-eyed baby, and rightfully so. Not only does she nail a trend before it’s on anyone else, but also personalises it to make it her own. And that’s why she is such a style icon for many women. Perfecting the white-on-white trend, Sonam wears this Antonio Berardi ensemble with elan. The Resort 2016 piece consists of a double front pocket blazer, a sheer tunic and cropped bottoms. This is an unexpected look that Sonam works well. A pair of white pumps and jewellery from Aurelle by Leshna Shah complete her ensemble. Now if this isn’t power dressing, I don’t know what is!
4. DEEPIKA PADUKONE
Doing complete justice to the term red hot, Deepika hit us up with the perfect example of an evolved pant suit. Wearing a structured cape blazer and trousers from ASOS, she teamed this with a tank top from Marks & Spencer. Deepika totally doled out a style lesson on what to wear to the next boardroom meeting, didn’t she? Accessorising with stud earrings from Outhouse and a pair of sky-high Louboutin pumps, this all-red-everything look will probably make it to our Best Celebrity Style Of 2016 list at the end of the year.
5. ATHIYA SHETTY
While we’ve said this in the past, we might as well say it again: Athiya Shetty is fashion’s new darling. Here she demos how to work a top-to-toe co-ordinated look effortlessly. Trust me when I say this: the ensemble is one among her many looks that will have you “following suit” in the sartorial department! This three-piece AM:PM by Ankur & Priyanka Modi suit spells easy chic style from every seam, and the statuesque actress wears it with ease.
