Trend To Try: Biker Shorts Now Have Chanel’s Seal Of Approval!
Around the summer of 2018, we saw the Kardashian and Jenner clan rock the bizarre yet intriguing biker shorts trend. While the outfit looked cool and left you in awe, you’d also wonder why? Soon after Kim Kardashian rocked biker shorts, fashion influencers like Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid and Ariana Grande were seen wearing biker shorts too.
With these celebrities giving their stamp of approval to this trend, a stream of bloggers hopped onto this trend and filled our Instagram feed with biker shorts #OOTDs, and biker shorts officially had their moment. Now obviously Kim was not the first one to rock this trend. This trend, which originated back in the 80s and 90s, was also worn by the OG Fashionista, Princess Diana too.

Just when we thought this trend is just a bizarre phase and would fizzle out soon, the Spring 2019 runways predicted otherwise. After making a cameo on several major runways, biker shorts got the ultimate endorsement on the last day of Paris Fashion Week Spring Summer 2019, when Karl Lagerfeld (the man who once said “sweatpants are a sign of defeat”) sent not just spandex shorts, but full-on leggings down the Chanel runway.
On the last day of Paris Fashion Week, Chanel hosted a one-of-a-kind show that was held on a beach, where the models strutted down a sandy runway bare feet, wearing classic black biker shorts with structured blazers. The collection also showcased high-shine spandex that mimicked the look of leather. Not just that, models were also seen wearing leggings-as-pants, which has been a topic of debate since Gossip Girl Season 1. Lagerfeld styled leggings with oversized jackets and blazers for a more polished look. For those who do not want to commit to biker shorts or full-length leggings, there was also a capri length middle ground.
Now that they have the official Chanel seal of approval, it’s time to shamelessly wear biking shorts to work and leggings as pants all season long. Here are our picks if you are looking to pick a pair.
