Editor’s Pick: Bushra’s Fierce Tribal-Inspired Earrings
I’m a pretty tough nut to crack. I think I can survive any emotional endurance test… that is, if it doesn’t involve accessories and make-up. I think the worst form of torture is having to pick only five favourite products or having to wear only one accessory for a whole month. That’s just downright cruel. My friends and family are well aware of my passion for changing up my make-up and styling game every day, if I can help it.
I love costume jewellery. I love the minimalist sensibilities of the West and the larger-than-life, opulent pieces you can find in India. I draw up my travel itinerary according to what kind of jewellery I can score from the place. Perhaps this is why Morocco scores the #1 spot in my list of places to visit internationally, and Rajasthan in India. I have an uncanny knack of discovering these hard-to-find shops wherever I go. I believe the shops find me and not the other way around!
On a particularly hectic afternoon, I was aimlessly browsing through Pernia’s Pop Up Shop when I saw these seriously fierce earrings. My first thoughts on seeing them were that they resembled bull’s horns, the kind I’ve seen in Phantom comic books. The site describes these gold-plated earrings as half moon heads, but I prefer bull’s horns. The shape, coupled with the gold-plating and turquoise stones, gives it a distinct tribal African feel. The sheer grey quartz drop was a good thought in keeping things from getting flashy. The shape of the earrings are its biggest draw. That, followed by the colour of the stones (one dull, one bright), and the gold plating have put this pair of fierce earrings on my lust list!
