Online Giant Alibaba Will Soon Be Launching In India!
If you haven’t heard of internet giant Alibaba, you’ve been living under a rock. Among the world’s largest online retailers, Alibaba is based in China and fronted by its highly visible Chairman, Jack Ma. The retailer is known for its fierce rivalry with the American e-commerce giant Amazon, and now both behemoths have set their sights on India to expand into new markets and expand their scope of offerings.
While Amazon has already made its presence felt in the country, Alibaba recently announced plans to kickstart its India operations shortly. In fact, the group’s president Michael Evans visited India in March and said that the online store had big plans to penetrate India’s e-commerce business this year.
Alibaba already has an indirect presence in India via investments in Snapdeal and PayTM. And now, it’s gearing up to set up an independent core team for India. After bringing in former IDG Ventures associate Soumitra Sharma as Director of Global Strategies, Economic Times revealed today that Alibaba has roped in Bharti Balakrishnan, Chief Business Officer of LocalOye, as its first senior-level employee. More key hires are expected in the coming weeks.
What this means for you and me is access to some pretty kickass (and super affordable) products that are hard to find anywhere else. Think amazing hair accessories, beauty products, fashion accessories, the works. We’re doing a happy little dance just thinking about how soon we’ll be able to shop on Alibaba!
