5 Reasons Why Priyanka Chopra is More Than Just A Desi Girl!
Over the past decade, there have been a number of Bollywood celebrities that have been seen departing as quickly as they have been seen ‘arriving’ in the industry. One hit here, two flops there, and usually you find yourself on the outskirts of tinsel town. But if there is one celebrity who has never stopped being relevant in Bollywood and now across the world, it has to be our Desi Girl, and now global superstar – Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
Turning 37 today, the actress who has spent major part of her life in the showbiz, may have started as a desi girl, but here is why we think she is much more than that and has always had the makings of an international sensation.
In 2000, Priyanka Chopra won the prestigious title of Miss World at the tender age of 18 and started her journey of always representing India in the best of light all across the world. Be it religiously working towards the title or always showing off her sparkling wit, charm and strong opinions, the actress may have started young but still holds up to all the values she holds close to her heart. Still carrying that part of a proud Indian in herself, in her style or even her actions, the actress loves showing off her Indian side and we love her for it.
Having found her footing in Bollywood back in 2002 with her first movie, Priyanka Chopra came into her own with back-to-back blockbusters from Mujhse Shaadi Karogi to Don and has always given us characters that have truly outlived their time and are still remembered fondly, as is she. She’s an example of where sheer hardwork and determination can take you, going from strength to strength, coming into a self-made woman. And even when she was trolled by Salman Khan for walking out of her career’s ‘biggest film’, she gave it back subtly but sharply. She said that this was a project that was only a ‘tent-pole, potboiler with song and dance’.
Yes, movies may have been calling but the actress never shied away from exploring all the avenues open to her. Only 6 years into the business, she ventured out to become a singer she always knew she could and went on to release her single In My City with Sam Watters, Matthew Koma and Jay Sean. The actress then also produced another hit single with Pitbull, Exotic, and earned herself worldwide public and critical acclaim.
If that was not enough, PeeCee went on to then become the first South Asian woman to get on an American Drama Series, headlining the show for 3 hit seasons and then became the first Indian actress to win a People’s choice award for her spectacular performance, all the while managing her trips and projects back in India. Phew! That’s exhaustive.

The truth is quite simple…the future of this world lies in the hands of the children of today. But the harsh reality is that there is an entire generation of innocent children growing up right now without any prospects for thier future…these children are affected by displacement due to serious conflict and emergencies in thier various regions. When families are forced to leave their homes due to violence, persecution, and natural disasters, they are torn apart and it's the children that end up suffering the most. The numbers are staggering, yes…but we have to continue to stand for them, in whatever capacity we can as individuals. They are the future and we need to help. And while Priyanka Chopra has always basked in her glory of success, she has never let go of her sense of social responsibility towards the world and used her stardom to reach out to millions, often talking about important issues like women’s rights, health, education and feminism. Being a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF for more than a decade now, the actress makes time and efforts to represent them on a global level and always been big on philanthropy.
