LFW 2016: 5 Stunning Debuts At The Gen Next Show

Day 1 at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016 started off with quite a bang. Five creative designers from Gen Next made quite a mark this year with their concepts and design. There was Chola by Sohaya to Chirag Nainani, here are all the looks we loved the most from the show.

1. Aqdus Saleem

Inspired by the Middle East, this collection used fabrics like cotton, linen and organza. Titled The Modest Chapter, Aqdus made it a point to blend effortlessly two elements — Islamic ethnic wear in terms of cuts with contemporary trends. The display sure was summery; love the use of white and beige in the entire collection. Excessive summer layering was a constant throughout the collection.

2. Chirag Nainani

Indigo and whites were the colours of the season for designer Chirag Nainani. Inspired by forgotten memories, Chirag’s collection titled Fossilised Subconscious was highly wearable — flared minis with an asymmetric panel, tuxedo jacket with skirt, peplum blouse with saris and more. Giving importance to handloom fabrics and crafts of local artisans, his collection was worth a buy!

3. Naveem Naaz Shaikh

Denim fever, that was designer Naveem Naaz Shaikh’s memo for Sukomo. A collection that spelt carefree and fun, Naveem used plaids, stripes and childish motifs (from the letters of the alphabet to beetles) throughout the collection. Ombre and laser cut dominated the collection, with a hint of colour blocking as seen on jeans.

4. Agrima Batra

To The Stars And Back, Agrima’s collection showcased chic day-to-evening wear created with zero wastage. Loved the origami appliques as seen on the garments that ranged from sheath dresses, trench dresses to one-shoulder gowns. We also noticed trends like the cold shoulder in her collection. Also, can we have those box bags used as accessory in the show. LOVE!

5. Sohaya  Misra

The Pyjama Tribe by Sohaya Misra (Chola) was one easy-lounging and relaxed. Deriving Oriental influences, Sohaya worked a collection that started with white, beige and grey and moved to cherry, red and blues. Layered separates were a highlight of this collection. We noticed flared shirt dress with soft trench coat, grey layered skirt, draped asymmetric frocks and more as part of the collection.
