Summer’s Here. Are You Melting Already?

Summer’s Here. Are You Melting Already?

As a lot of you have probably realised by now, we’re in the middle of a heat wave in Maharashtra and other parts of the country. Temperates have soared well over 40 degrees already, and the next few months are going to be nothing short of hot, hot, HOT! Which got my team and I thinking about all the things we were going to do to not just stay cool, but look cool too this summer.

And so we decided to dedicate the entire month of April to celebrating the best of summer fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. Look out for these specials in stories tagged #30DaysOfSummer on both the site as well as our social pages. Apart from tips, tricks, and shoppable stories full of great summer staples, we’ll also be giving you daily recommendations on Facebook and Instagram on all the cool events, places to eat, nosh to feast on, and suchlike you can indulge in over the course of the month. Be sure to follow along and tell us what you think of our recommendations!

Feel free to also share your recommendations by tagging us and using the hashtag #30DaysOfSummer, and get a chance to be featured on our social feeds!

On a completely different note, we seize the opportunity to introduce you to exceptional women from various fields every month. This month, we talk to several female comedians who are not-so-quietly staging a revolution in the funny world.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it is hard being a woman. It is even harder being a woman in the entertainment industry, especially comedy. For starters, they are the exception rather than the rule. Stand-up comedy is a notoriously male-dominated space, especially in India. In some cases, I’ve heard of female comedians being booked for shows as an afterthought. Sometimes, they don’t think about them at all. Like, it never occurred to them to book a female comedian in the first place. This kind of omission is as surprising as it is infuriating.

As Tina Fey said in a Guardian interview while promoting her movie Sisters last year, it’s a “terrible time” for women in comedy. “Every single interviewer asked, ‘Isn’t this an amazing time for women in comedy?’ People really wanted us to be openly grateful – ‘Thank you so much!’ – and we were like, ‘No, it’s a terrible time.’ If you were to really look at it, the boys are still getting more money for a lot of garbage, while the ladies are hustling and doing amazing work for less.”

Women don’t need to prove that they are funny anymore. And these sassy sisters show us why we need more of their tribe.
