Tahira Kashyap Went From Being Insecure About Ayushmann Khurrana’s Lovemaking Scenes To Critiquing Them!

You know I’ve often wondered how these actors kiss and make out on-screen, playing couples for years, and never fall in love. And here I am, imagining my future with the guy if he flirts with me once. But think about it, how difficult must it be to watch the love of your life be constantly paired, and get their name taken with their on-screen lover and not you? Being an actor in a cinema-worshipping nation like ours isn’t an easy feat. But being that actor’s family member seems to be as meaty a role as the lead. In fact. Tahira Kashyap, wifey to Ayushmann Khurrana, recently spoke about watching her husband romance on screen with stunning women like Radhika Apte in Andhadhun, and it was quite an eye-opener (yep, that’s a blind joke, thanks for noticing!).

In a recent interview, Tahira Kashyap, who’s fresh off the warm reception to her book, ’12 Commandments Of Being A Woman’, spoke about how earlier, she was quite insecure of watching Ayushmann do intimate scenes on screen. As she explains it, she didn’t come from a background in movies and therefore, it was hard to be instantly comfortable with it. What she admits made it worse was the fact that she was pregnant at the time Ayushmann Khurrana was doing movies like Vicky Donor and Nautanki Sala. And the insecurity about her pregnancy body, the stress and anxiety altogether gave her Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Vicky Donor se shuru ho gaya tha. I was at home, I was pregnant and looking like a whale. I had gained 20 kilos and every woman goes through the journey. But I kept thinking that I’m looking like this, and my husband is romancing on screen. My reactions were immature but I don’t regret that at all. Yes, I did have these insecurities. It didn’t finish off there. It went on to Nautanki Saala, where he recorded the longest kiss on screen. It was all out in the press and it got to me.”

I may not have experienced the exact same thing, but NGL, I can totally understand why Tahira would feel that way! It’s hard to see things objectively at such times, to look beyond your own fears and insecurities. She, in fact, admits to having done a lot of learning and unlearning to wrap her head around who the movie industry works and how to become more at peace with the reality that her husband will have to keep doing this because it is, after all, his job.

And guess what, having sorted out her own feelings, which she believes are often more responsible for such discomfort than the situations itself, Tahira Kashyap has finally reached that zen point. Now, not only is she okay watching hubby Ayushmann on screen with these beautiful women, she even uses her own experience as a filmmaker to offer constructive criticism about his intimacy scenes!

She recalled how, after watching Andhadhun, she had some feedback for director Sriram Raghavan, about how the lovemaking scene between Ayushmann Khurrana and Radhika Apte should’ve gone on longer for effect.

“I remember watching Andhadhun and telling Sriram sir that I wish the lovemaking scene between Ayushmann and Radhika could have been longer. It seemed too quick and abrupt. So that’s the change I have had. Now, I look at it from an artistic point of view. Today, I’m a filmmaker and I might also need someone to enact out love on screen, regardless of whose husband or boyfriend he is, so I took time to realise that this is okay.”

Wow, that’s some character arc, right? Going from an insecure wife to someone who is secure and knows what she means to her man! All credits to her, and some for Ayushmann too, because it does take two to tango and to build trust. The happy couple, who celebrated their wedding anniversary just three days ago, have been through quite a lot, including Tahira’s breast cancer diagnosis, and they seem to have only emerged stronger from it all. That’s #CoupleGoals if I ever saw one!
