Strings Tied Over Pants Is The Only Way We Are Wearing Our Strappy Sandals In 2020

This year was a complete waste fashion wise and otherwise too. Before it was all about sanitizers, sliders and sweats, some really cool fashion trends and looks were gaining steam, only to have become nearly extinct in the course of time. The good news is that as the world gradually unravels from the lockdowns and panic attacks, these fashion trends are also being resurrected by the celebrities and fashion buffs. One of these looks or a styling hack that was picking up pace in the pre-Corona era was lace-up heels or your strappy sandals tied over pants. I know, sounds a bit uncomfortable but believe me, it’s actually the opposite and most probably the chicest look you could sport.

It was during the fashion week of Summer Spring that this look first made an appearance and almost every fashion influencer and street style fashion fanatic sported the look outside the runways. Initially the internet was confused because conventionally, the strappies are tied around all the way up to your calf or thigh, depending on the length of the lace. However, we didn’t get much time to debate on it as it was abruptly put on rest and replaced by sliders and flip flops, because Covid.

Nushrratt Bharuccha recently paired her blue and white checkered co-ords with strappy heels tied over the bottom of her pants and it was proof enough the trend is back to the fashion scene. Before this, fashion blogger Masoon Minawala debuted the look at the Milan Fashion Week earlier this year and we were floored. Get ready to see more of this trendy fashion look everywhere this year, and probably next year too, because let’s face it, 2020 is almost over and we wasted it wearing yoga pants and crocs all the time (not that it was all bad).

Contrary to what it may seem like, this is relatively super comfortable to wear straps as the it serves as ankle straps that don’t leave a mark on your gams. Plus, they don’t need to be tied uncomfortably tight because since there’s no risk of them sliding down involved. You could wear this shoe style over your jeans, pants, joggers, literally anything that reaches your ankles. Simply wrap around the wiry ties of your sandals along the pants a little above the hemline to give your bottoms a tied-up paper bag effect. This works equally well for flared or fitted bottoms and adds a chic factor to your look. You could also wear strappy sandals in contrasting colour to your pants to really put it on full display.

Take a look at how the Instagram fashionistas are pulling off the look, in case you need some inspiration.

Although it’s a refreshing street style that revamped how you wore the classic strappy heels, it could very well be formal look if you do it right. Pair it with pantsuits and pick the sandals in solid and minimal design and you could pull off a formal take on the casual trend. We suggest going all out and experimenting with all sorts of colours, textures and looks while you are at it. It is an incredible way to use your shoe details to make your whole outfit stand out. Okay, well, I am going to look for some strappy sandals for myself now, so later!
