Zareen Khan Shut Body Shamers Down. The Comments Are Proof That People Are Repulsed By Real Bodies. The Tragedy!
“Fats dikh rhe pet ke aapke”
“So weird stomach”
“What happened to your stomach.”
These ridiculous comments are just the tip of the iceberg of the hateful comments directed at actress Zareen Khan over the past weekend. The actress was in Udaipur recently and shared a picture on her social, posing in front of the picturesque City Palace. This image caused quite a stir among her followers. Zareen was her usual beautiful self in a fitted crop top and flared pants, with visibly evident stretch marks on her midriff.
This was followed by a slew of comments, with people trolling the actress for the same. Zareen has always been very vocal about her issues with weight gain and subsequent loss. The fact that people were confused about what stretch marks are is very disturbing indeed. We, as an audience, are so used to looking at photo shopped and re-touched images, that a natural phenomenon like scarring caused due to weight loss is lost on us. Fed up with the negativity, Zareen took to her stories to talk to these people directly. She said, “For people who are very curious to know about what’s wrong with my stomach, this is the natural stomach of a person who’s lost more than 50 Kg of weight. This is how it looks when it is not photoshopped or surgically corrected. I’ve always been someone who believes in being real and embraced my imperfections with pride rather than covering it up”, she revealed.
While we are glad that the actress decided to speak up about the issue, we simply can’t wrap our head around the pathetic ignorance. It has also made us realize that, indeed, we are exposed to a dangerously perfect body image. Smoothed out skin, slimmed down waistlines and porcelain complexions have become the norm, and it’s not healthy.

Came across these pics of mine from school and college days. (White one was in std 9th & pink one was right after my std 12th exams). Whn I look at these pics I feel proud of myself today not tht I felt any lesser abt myself back then. Inspite of being so big I never let ppl's comments or ideas abt me bother me. Bcoz it's my life and my body and only I hav the right to decide wht I'm gonna do with it. Then one day I decided let me try how it feels to b a little lighter and hence started my weight loss journey. It wasn't easy at all bt everytime I looked at the Progress in the mirror I got the push to do more. I had lots more energy than before and I was loving every bit of this new person I was transforming into. Whn I became a part of this industry, I had lost all my weight … Infact I was asked to put on weight Fr my first film to look the character. Unfortunately I was criticised to no end Fr my weight bt again I never let tht get to me. How cud I ? Those ppl had not seen me like the way I am in these pics here. And Fr me everything was jus an achievement to reach frm where I was to where I am. I continued on my fitness journey irrespective Bcoz fitness Fr me is a way of life now. Along with the weight loss came a lot of stretch marks bt instead of feeling ashamed of it and trying to hide it , I believe in flaunting it . It makes me feel like a tigress with her stripes. I have come a long way in this journey of fitness and I still hav a long way to go… Bt it's always been only Fr myself and not Bcoz of ppl shaming me ! #IWillBeMe #MondayMotivation #SayNoToBodyShaming #LoveYourself
While Zareen did have to face backlash for her raw picture, there has been massive support for this show of bravery as well. From her followers to other celebrities, there has been a lot of love for the actress. One of these people was fellow actress Anushka Sharma, who has faced her fair share of trolling on the internet. She took to her Insta stories and shared, “Zareen, you’re beautiful and brave and strong and perfect just the way you are. #lookbeyondthebody #appreciationpost,”, she chimed in.
The toxic culture of internet bullying has become a very real issue, with unsuspecting celebrities often at the receiving end of this hate. We are especially glad that female celebs have chosen to fight back, instead of “just letting it be”. Zareen Khan’s journey to getting fit and inspirational with her stretch marks being nothing less than tiger stripes, the ones she has earned. You do you, badass human!
P.S. Can we arrange a basic biology and human anatomy class for the people who failed to recognize stretch marks, please?
