8 Times Sonam Gave Us Inspiration For The Festive Season

8 Times Sonam Gave Us Inspiration For The Festive Season

From March to September, it’s a really drab time in the Indian festive calendar. But come October, and a host of festivities make my heart soar. Everything from people’s outfits to their moods, from the bazaars to the cuisine, there’s a festive, decked out vibe that’s hard to ignore. Festival season also calls for shopping, which means curating entire ensembles by picking the right outfits, the perfect accessories, and looking for make-up and hair inspo that will set you apart from the rest.

Thankfully, Sonam Kapoor never disappoints in the style or beauty department; her fashion choices, make-up and hair game are SO spot on. She’s been making lots of appearances recently for the promotions of her upcoming film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in some fabulous ethnic looks. Know what that means? Some serious Diwali and wedding dressing inspiration for all you guys!

1. Classic Red

It’s all about striking a balance. Sonam’s outfit is beautiful but heavily embellished. So she chose a statement maang tikka to go with it along with small ear studs and no other accessories. Centre-parted hair made the statement accessory stand out. If you have a great jawline, you can opt for a similar hairstyle. Part your hair in the middle, take a two-inch section from each side of the hairline, roll it into twists and pin it to the back of your head. Gather the rest of your hair in a ponytail and make six or eight sections depending on the thickness. Roll each section from the end towards the root and pin it to your head. Finish with a strong hold hairspray. A tinted moisturiser on your face, brown eyeshadow, some great falsies and a red lip make this a smashing look. Don’t forget to strobe!

2. Retro Waves

This throwback to the 1940s hairstyle is way too gorgeous to be excluded from my list. To get this look, you should use a curler with a big barrel to get loose waves. While your hair is cooling, use pins on each of the bends to get pronounced waves. Create a side part and pin the hair behind the ears loosely. Gather the rest of the hair in a ponytail and loosely roll sections, pinning each one as you go.

3. Romantic Halo

Considering her outfit is blush pink with accents of silver, Sonam chose to go for a hair and make-up look that accentuates the ensemble’s fairytale-like vibe. Her hair is parted in the centre and both sides have been braided in intricate French braids — they aren’t messy but they’re not in a neat row either. The rest of her hair has been tucked into a messy bun of rolled sections. A hint of shimmery eyeshadow in taupe followed by a slim, winged eyeliner and blush pink lips completes her look.

4. Dramatic Winged Eyes

If you’re one of those people who likes playing up their best features, this strong look is for you. Apply a wash of bronze eyeshadow all over your eyelids till the crease. Contour the crease with a darker brown eyeshadow and highlight the brow bone with a pearly or champagne-coloured shadow. Using your liquid eyeliner, draw a dramatic winged eye. How thick this is is directly proportional to your confidence in carrying it off. IMO, stop erring on the side of caution and go for bold. A touch of fuchsia colour on your lips balances the strong eyes.

5. Bold Smoky Eyes & Nude Lips

If you don’t have the time to draw a precise cat eye (God knows that thing takes time!) but still want to sport a bold look, try doing this instead. You can even forgo the brush for this one. Pat grey-black or brown-black eyeshadow only on the eyelids. Using a Q-tip, line your lower lash line with the same eyeshadow. Leave the waterline bare and apply two-three coats of mascara. Fill in and groom your brows. Use a flesh-coloured lipliner to line your lips and fill in with a similar-coloured lipstick. Very often, nude lips look like they’re blending with the rest of the face, which is why it’s imperative to line and define them before filling it with a nude lipstick.

6. Victorian Elegance

Somehow, this beauty look reminds me of Pride & Prejudice. Know why her sleek and shiny hair — with a deep middle-part gathered into a sleek bun — doesn’t look severe but actually romantic? It’s because Sonam has knotted it very loosely at the nape of her neck instead of pulling it back tightly. I love how the brows make this look stand out, despite the minimalistic make-up.

7. Sleek Blowout

No matter how much I encourage girls to accept their natural hair texture, there’s something about straight hair that has me going wow. It’s such a sleek and polished look for formal occasions. I also like how Sonam has a soft smokey eye going here. Apply black eyeshadow only on the outer half on the eyelids and soften its effect by blending it in. Line your waterline with kohl and apply a brown eyeshadow on the lower lash line to create soft, smokey eyes.

8. Floral Twists

Remember my rant about how twists are the most underrated hairstyle ever? Well, looks like someone else other than Alia Bhatt has been listening! I suddenly feel like Sonam is my BFF. Look at how she’s rolled her hair along the hairline to create two twists and then accessorised her bun with traditional flowers. I wonder why we aren’t wearing flowers in our hair anymore!
