6 Natural Alternatives To Cosmetic Facewash

Washing your face is a ritual that many people tend to take lightly. The amount of impurities that settle on your skin every day can be harmful in the long run. Washing your face not only gets rid of these impurities, but also treats oily skin and helps combat other skin allergies.

Keeping this in mind, I have begun to wash my face at least twice or thrice a day! Because I have oily skin, I often find it difficult to find the perfect facewash. Some products cause a breakout while others make my skin feel rough and dry. Facewash and soaps often contain sodium lauryl sulfate and sugar tensides. These chemicals tend to strip off the natural protective layer of the skin, leaving it prone to infections and a host of other problems.

So, if you’re worried about using a facewash that may contain one or more of these chemicals, don’t fret. We have another option for you. Keep scrolling to discover 6 natural alternatives to facewash. Think of it as food for your gorgeous face!

1. Papaya

This deliciously sweet, lush orange fruit is great for the face! Papayas contain an enzyme called papain. Papain helps in skin lightening, exfoliation, anti-ageing and general skin repair. You could either mash a quarter of the fruit into a pulp and apply it to your face or rub the peel directly. Let this sit for a good 10 to 15 minutes before you rinse it off.

2. Honey

Honey is often termed as ‘ambrosia’ or food of the Gods. Well, not surprising, considering it’s packed with so much goodness. Honey has antibacterial as well as moisturising benefits. Apply it to your face, allow it to sit for about 5-6 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water for a healthy, natural glow.

3. Oranges

It’s a well-established fact (or at least I think so) that oranges are wonderful for the skin. To be precise, orange peels! So next time, don’t chuck those peels in the trash just yet. Instead, use them as a means to clean the face. You can grind the peels into a fine powder or merely dab it directly on your face.

4. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a great facial cleanser. It has tons of nourishing properties and it kills harmful bacteria. Applying coconut oil on your face instead of your regular facewash can make your skin look radiant and feel smoother. Besides, it’ll be 10 times healthier from within!

5. Peas

Surprised? I was too! Apparently, peas contain antioxidants that help tighten the skin and even hydrate it for an irresistible glow. All you need to do is grind a handful of peas, pour the mixture into a jar and add some water to it. Apply this mixture to your face and keep it on for a few minutes. Wash it off for smoother, better-looking skin.

6. Buttermilk

Who knew that good ol’ buttermilk was good for the skin? Put away your tubes of chemical-infused facewash and make way for some chaas! It deeply moisturises and nourishes the skin, and even helps get rid of that dreaded tan. Magical? We think so!
