The Only Way You Should Be Wearing Colour This Summer

The Only Way You Should Be Wearing Colour This Summer

Fashion Weeks forecast the trends we will be wearing in the forthcoming seasons, and the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016 was no different. From beautiful nude looks to brazenly bold ones, there was tonnes of inspiration for make-up lovers. Here are some of the looks I will be pinning to my mood board this season. These bright colours are exactly how make-up should be worn this summer.

Purple-Pink Eyes

There’s no denying that Nikhil Thampi’s show was spectacular in the hair and make-up department and it was hard not to be awestruck by the elaborately braided hair, crystal headgear from Valliyan, Swarovksi studded lips, and the seriously OTT nails. I won’t blame you if you totally overlooked the far tamer smoked purple-pink eyeshadow that the models wore. Easier to replicate than most other looks from the show, I think purple is a largely unexplored colour. Eyeliners in various shades like lilac, aubergine, and plum would look fab for summer evenings. Also note the metallic fuchsia lips worn at the show for a chill look.

White and Turquoise Eyeliner

I’m so glad that white is gaining strength as a popular eyeliner colour. I don’t understand why people are so wary of it. Nothing looks fresher and cleaner than crisply lined eyes using white eyeliner. It is so versatile when you want to pull a chic winter look or channel a summery vibe. The white eyeliner that the models wore at the KaSha and Urvashi Kaur show was given an interesting spin by make-up artist Namrata Soni with the shot of azure blue eyeliner right below the iris on the lower lashline.

Orange Zest Accents

Girls, give your black and neutral eyeliners a break. There’s a world of colour to explore, like the bright orange eyeliner Fat Mu make-up artists Natasha Nischol and Virginia Holmes used on the lower lashline in Neeta Lulla’s show. I like the idea of the minimalist dash instead of extending the eyeliner across the lashline. Orange is such a bright colour and one that would definitely look so beautiful on Indian skin tones. I say this look has summer written all over it.

Cobalt Blue Cat Eyes

I’m so used to seeing Shraddha Kapoor playing it safe when it comes to hair and make-up (except this one time when she looked preppy with her prom-worthy make-up and updo), that I was quite taken aback by how striking she looked in the bright cobalt blue cat eyes she wore as a showstopper for Masaba Gupta. If you look closely, the blue eyeliner extends all the way to the crease and a crisp black line is used to mark the boundaries. A very bold look for real life, what you can do instead is opt for a regular cat eye in cobalt blue keeping it as close to the lashline as possible.

Blue Eyebrows

Who doesn’t love a bold brow! And if you’re the experimental type who loves to play up her brows, this look is definitely for you. Models at the Gen Next show wore a dash of cobalt blue shadow on their brow bones that looked like it was a part of their eyebrows. This is just the kind of look that does not scream for attention and yet will get you noticed. I see no reason why you should not try other colours as well. Shocking pink is great if you are feeling bold while greens will be as muted as the blue in this picture.
