Changing the way your hair looks is honestly one of the most crucial decisions a girl takes. I mean, it’s one of the main features in any makeover montage, because when a new hairdo is done correctly, it’s just so life-affirmingly awesome.

But before you start feeling like a #GirlBoss who has a mane to kill for comes the period of self-doubt where your friends tell you stories of their botched hair jobs.

Suddenly you’re confronted with questions like, “OMG! Are you sure you want to colour your hair?” “What if it gets frizzier?” “Highlights on curls? You sure about that, Faro?”

As fate would have it, L’Oréal Professionnel has launched a new in-salon treatment called SmartBond, which gives you the freedom to go crazy with your hair, without the damage.

I was told that SmartBond acts as a safety barrier whenever you straighten or perm hair by strengthening broken bonds that already exist — FYI that’s what makes your hair look damaged, frizzy, and sad!

Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? So I put my tresses to the test and took the plunge at a media event where I got to play princess for a day while a dedicated L’Oréal Professionnel stylist gave me a makeover.

I’ve have had major mishaps with hair colour selection in the past, so I let Vaishakhi Haria, my stylist, pick my shade.

We decided on hair contouring, a technique that gives your face a slimmer cut, which is achieved by using 2-3 shades within the same colour family.

I was assured that going lighter wouldn’t damage my already frizzy, super curly hair thanks to SmartBond.

Here’s how the SmartBond process works: Vaishakhi mixed in the bond strengthening additive to my hair colour as a first step.

Step 2 involved a pre-shampoo that helps rinse off chemical residue. Easy-peasy and perfect for a low-maintenance girl like myself.

“Change is a good thing, you’re in safe hands,” I chanted to myself, as I said a little prayer before I let Vaishakhi take my fate in her hands, and it worked out for the best.

The colour looked glossy and gorgeous, just like I’ve always wanted.

It’s easy to see that my hair looks smoother, shinier, and WAY healthier in the ‘After’ photo, I’m happy to confirm that my hair still looks *that* gorgeous, if I do say so myself.

After this experience, I totally recommend getting SmartBond added to your colour/straightener; it’s a good investment and is honestly worth the money, because it gives your chemically treated hair a healthy finish.

Psst, SmartBond is a salon-only service, so ask your stylist about it before you go in for a hair transformation.
