#AskHauterfly: How Do I Get The No Make-Up Look?

#AskHauterfly: How Do I Get The No Make-Up Look?

It’s confession time, girls. Even though I love make-up, I can’t be bothered to go the whole hog EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. However, I also like to look well-put-together at all times. So what’s a girl to do? Wear the “no make-up” look instead. Now bear in mind that even the “no make-up” look requires some amount of prepping – it does not mean you slap on some sunscreen and run out the door (but if that’s all you need then more power to you girl!).

When I’m in the mood for a minimalist, barely-there make-up look, here’s what I do.

Forest Essentials Pure Aloe Vera Facial Gel (Rs 1,175)

1. CTM & Sunscreen

Step 1 is Cleansing-Toning-Moisturising, ALWAYS. No matter what the occasion, weather, skin type, mood or look, you must clean, tone and moisturise your skin. Whether you wear make-up later or not, CTM is just basic skin care. Always top it with sunscreen during the day.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (Rs 2,810)

2. Foundation or Tinted Moisturiser

If you have reasonably problem-free skin, swap foundation for tinted moisturiser (in which case, you can skip moisturiser and sunscreen since most tinted moisturisers have both). Make sure you get one that is closest to your skin tone by trying it along your jawline instead of the back of your hand. A no make-up look doesn’t look cakey, so if you’re applying foundation, do it with a make-up sponge like the Beauty Blender. Sponges absorb a lot of product, so there’s little chance of you being heavy-handed with your base. It is also far easier to blend with a sponge than a brush.

TheBalm How Bout Them Apples Cheek & Lip Palette (Rs 2,320)

3. Cream Blush

Apply a light wash of colour on the apples of your cheeks, preferably in coral or blush pink tones. Even if you have oily skin, use a cream blush as mixing textures may make you look like an unblended mess. Also, cream blushes last longer than powder ones.

Revlon Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil_Hauterfly

Revlon Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil (Rs 200)

4. Tightline

Using a black or brown eye pencil to tightline your lash line. Tightlining is nothing but filling in the gaps between your eyelashes with kohl. It creates definition around your eyes and makes your lashes look fuller. Make sure you don’t go over the waterline.

LOreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara_Hauterfly

L’Oréal Telescopic Explosion Mascara (Rs 980)

5. Waterline and Mascara

Apply a nude or flesh-coloured eye pencil on your waterline to open up your eyes. Nude eye pencil works better than white eye pencil as it’s more natural looking. Nude shades make the whites of your eyes look brighter. Curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara.

CoverGirl Professional Natural Lash No Color Mascara_Hauterfly

CoverGirl Professional Natural Lash No Color Mascara (Rs 1,166)

6. Groomed Brows

Run a lash comb or spoolie through your brows and set them in place with some clear mascara.

The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain_Hauterfly

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain (Rs 680)

7. Skip Lipliner

The no make-up look is all about looking natural. So skip lining your lips to avoid visible, harsh lines. Use a lip stain instead to add a hint of colour to your lips and voila! You’re all set!
