5 Home Remedies For Shiny Hair That Will Make Your Serum Look Bad

Every time I tell people what I want from my life, they tell me to dial down the optimism. I mean, is it too much ask for a billion dollars, a cushy job, a walk-in closet, shiny hair and fabulous skin? It is? Oh. Erm. Fine, let’s negotiate. I will settle for a decent job and closet. But shiny hair and fabulous skin? We all need that.

Now because we have had to settle for much less than a billion dollars (or any dollars at all), let’s find some ways to get shiny hair. I could suggest hair spas and expensive hair treatments, but you’re probably looking for something you can whip up at home. Well, I have just the home remedies you need for shiny hair.

Apple Cider Vinegar

If you’ve been attacking your hair with a potent cocktail of hairstyling products, heat and pollution, you should consider giving apple cider vinegar a whirl. Apple cider vinegar works as a conditioner and vacuums up all the residue from styling products. Mix this up with water, apply after you shampoo, let it sit, and then rise away to reveal shiny hair!

Mayonnaise

Okay, don’t just try and get it off your burger. You will need a decent quantity of mayonnaise to make your hair shiny and smooth. While we cannot entirely vouch for how healthy it is, mayo does come with anti-oxidants that can deeply repair your hair and make it look shiny! Apply a generous amount after you shampoo, leave it on for 30 minutes or so, and rinse off!

Beer

We know you would rather chug this than put it in your hair, but beer can help repair damaged hair cuticles, so your hair looks better immediately and grows better too. So, save up on some cans after the next game, let the fizz evaporate, and take this to the bathroom. Massage the beer on after you wash your hair, let it do its magic, and then wash off. Your hair will look healthier and shinier!

Avocado

Avocados are delicious, and great for skin and hair. Mash up a ripe avocado, throw in a splash of olive oil, and apply it to wet hair. Put on a shower cap, and let the avocado do its thing. Wash it off after 20 minutes. Since this fruit/ veggie has good fats, it hydrates and moisturises the hair, making it look like you’ve just walked out of the salon.

Tea

If you’d rather not have food in your hair, maybe tea can help you out. Both green and black tea deliver a power-packed performance when it comes to making your strands sparkle. Tea can activate growth, and also calm down the frizz, so your hair looks and feels better. It could stain your hair a little bit, so it is recommended that you choose a tea according to your hair colour. Make a concoction of it, leave it on for 30 minutes after a wash, and then rinse it out.
