11 Bollywood Stars Who Gave Us Festive Beauty Lessons
As far as Diwali bashes in Bollywood go, this year has been full of them, what with Shilpa Shetty, Sonam Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, the Bachchans and Ekta Kapoor throwing some grand shindigs. One of the many reasons I wait for this time of the year is for the endless hair and make-up inspiration I get from Bollywood stars. It helps me prepare for the wedding season that’s just around the corner.
The leading ladies of Bollywood come out in full force wearing their most magnificent ethnic outfits and jewellery, with hair and make-up looks to match. This year we had Kareena Kapoor and Malaika Arora Khan sporting low buns, while Sonakshi Sinha and Prachi Desai looked lovely in their retro waves. We also saw intense smokey eyes on Neha Dhupia and Kareena, and bold lips on Shilpa Shetty and Aditi Rao Hydari.

Deepika Padukone’s look was all about the eyes. From bold brows to mossy grey-green smokey eyes, make-up artist Daniel Bauer gave her a stunningly sleek evening look.
Know what I really like about Shilpa Shetty‘s make-up — apart from the rich berry lipstick that matches the giant ruby on her necklace? Her expertly done faux cat eye!
When in doubt, pull out a tube of red lipstick. Aditi Rao Hydari let her bright red lips take centrestage. Black eyeliner on the upper lash line complemented her pout. I love the addition of the tiny bindi!
I love how bindis are back this season. I don’t know why women abandoned them in the first place. Sonakshi Sinha wore hers with baby pink lips and cat eyes, which has become her trademark look now. Hey, I’m not complaining! 
If you manage to get your eyes off of the mass of insanely glossy curls, you’ll notice how Prachi Desai sticks to a fairytale-like theme with her outfit and make-up without looking caricature-ish. Sticking to the blush pink theme of her outfit, she wore diffused pinks on her eyes, lips, and cheeks. I like how she matched her glossy lids to her glossy hair.

Alia Bhatt is one girl who knows what suits her best, and that’s really important in order to nail a good beauty look. Her make-up is extremely age-appropriate. Neatly lined eyes, a touch of kajal (which doesn’t go all the way into the inner corners of her eyes), blush pink lipstick and light strobing was make-up Artist Elton J Fernandez’s look for her. Alia’s hair was rolled into twists on the front and pinned behind the ears, while the rest was styled in natural-looking waves.
Precise black eyeliner over shimmery eyeshadow and a pop of colour in the form of bright pink lipstick complemented Athiya Shetty‘s sea-foam blue lehenga.
The one thing I want to steal from Jacqueline Fernandez is her gorgeous, lush hair. That phrase “the higher the hair, the closer to god” was coined for her, I’m sure. Can I please have her bombshell hair in my next life! 
While Malaika Arora Khan held her own in a sea of opulent outfits, her make-up and hair deserve another mention. How can big smokey eyes look so softly beautiful at the same time? Also, with her fabulous bone structure, Malaika can easily get away with blush right on the apples of her cheeks.

Kareena Kapoor sported really thick eyeliner with her desi look, making it look like she had dark eye shadow on, and boy did she look gorgeous. Nude lips and some intense strobing coupled with a neat bun finished her look perfectly.
