#HauteList: The Best Beauty Launches Of May 2016
There’s never a dull day in Beautyville. There are tons of products hitting the shopping aisles Every. Single. Day. Products that promise nothing but the best, begging you to upgrade your beauty game. While a true-blue beauty junkie will swear that it takes nerves of steel to not wilfully go bankrupt, one has to ask the pertinent question: are these products worth the hype? That’s where we come in. In our monthly Best of Beauty series, we go through the process of rounding up some of the best new releases in skincare, haircare, makeup, the works. We sift through the gimmicks and tall claims and present to you products that definitely live up to the hype.
1. Spawake Summer Skincare Products
Spawake is a leading skincare brand from Japan. Spawake products are developed from sea-sourced natural Sea Weeds and active ingredients using advanced Japanese technologies. As part of their summer skincare launch, they’ve released Spawake UV Cut Silky Milk and Spawake UV Protect Aqua Gel. Spawake UV Cut Silky Milk is a water and sweat resistant sunscreen that provides SPF50+. It gets absorbed into skin instantly and doesn’t leave that dreaded white film on the skin. Spawake UV Protect Aqua Gel is a water-based sunscreen with SPF 30. The gel formula makes it ideal for people with oily skin. It can also be used as a primer under your makeup.
2. Maybelline New York Big Apple Reds
An avid lipstick wearer will agree that no two reds are the same, and this is precisely why Maybelline introduced its Big Apple Reds, a range of five lip colours and six nail colours inspired by the Big Apple — New York. The creamy lipsticks are saturated with red pigments and dry down to a matte finish that lasts up to six hours. Makeup artist Elton J Fernandez describes the range as the perfect blue-based reds for Indian skin tones.
3. MAC Versicolour Stain
With the Versicolour Stain, MAC joins the bandwagon of lip stains albeit a little late in the day. The Versicolour Stain is a blend of gloss and stain in a fluid formula and is available in eight shades. It goes on with a watery consistency but sets into a gel when the volatile components evaporate. Read more about the Versicolour Stain here.

4. Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor
About time Revlon came out with its own liquid lip colour. I have to say that I’m a loyalist to matte liquid lipsticks. The velvety matte lip colour from Revlon is lightweight and moisturising. It goes on as a gloss and stays like that for a whole hour or so. The non-drying, non-flaking formula is great for people who have dry lips and find wearing matte formulations uncomfortable. The Utra HD Matte Lipcolor is available in eight sultry shades.
5. Sugar Stroke of Genius Heavy Duty Kohl
Sugar Cosmetics has its heart in the right place. Another stellar product from its beauty line is the heavy duty kohl pencil. This waterproof kohl has a soft and creamy texture. The colour payoff is amazing and lasts around eight hours with minimal fading.
6. L’Occitane Cherry Blossom Folie Florale Collection
L’Occitane celebrates the poetic beauty of the cherry blossom and its delicate, feminine flowers during the first days of spring and is known to launch products that are a variation of the cherry blossom every spring. The Folie Florale Collection includes Eau de Toilettes, skincare, and bath products.
7. The Body Shop British Rose Collection
The Body Shop’s latest collection is the British rose which has long been considered a timeless icon of femininity. The organic roses that are grown at an environmental award-winning farm in the heart of the English countryside, are hand-picked, air-dried and then infused. The range includes bath and body products that exude elegance and femininity.
8. L’Oréal Paris Infallible Silkissime Eye Liner
L’Oréal Paris debuted its Cannes Collection 2016 with their Infallible range of products that includes foundations, lipsticks, glosses, eye pencils, mascaras, and nail varnishes. While I think most of the products are quite kickass, I think their eye pencils are the real showstoppers. While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor both wore the shade True Teal exceptionally well, the one in Gold is the real hero with the versatility it offers. See how Sonam wore the look here.
