10 Best Moisturisers That Will Prep Your Skin For Perfect Makeup Application

By  |

When it comes to makeup, skincare is the most important. Uh-huh, you read that right. Not only can good, well taken care of skin make a world of a difference, but so can your prep, right before you apply makeup.

As a makeup artist, I always prep my clients by taking them through my entire skincare routine. Cleanse, tone, and moisturise, only then can primers make an entry. And if your primer is also super moisturising, then always remember — there’s no such thing as too much moisturiser.

Okay, kidding, there is, but work one layer in and then wear the primer as a veil on top. And double moisturiser is definitely a good thing.

So, without further ado, here are 10 moisturisers that work wonders before you apply your makeup. Often, you don’t even need primers when you have these moisturisers. These even make for great travel buddies.

Farsali Rose Gold Elixir (Rs 4,686)

1. Farsali Elixirs

Elixirs are fancy names for serums, but trust me, this one deserves all the fluff in the world. Their rose gold elixir is a hit amongst all beauty bloggers and was first introduced by Farah Dukkai, the queen of skincare.

Eve Lom Rescue Oil Free Moisturizer (Rs 4,395)

2. Eve Lom

Eve Lom, as a brand, is famous for its clean and simple skincare lines. You get what you see with these gems. The oil-free moisturiser is great for those with oily skin. Keep your makeup shine-free with this formula.

Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre (Rs 1,758)

3. Embryolisse

This one is my personal favorite, especially for drier climates. I have oily skin, so I may not use it every day, but remember, moisturiser is key for oily skin too. Sometimes, your pores go into overdrive trying to produce oil, if you leave them too dry. So treat yourself to a thick moisturiser like this, pre-makeup, especially if you’re going for a dewy look.

M.A.C. Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15 (Rs 2,700)

4. M.A.C.

This lightweight moisturiser readies your skin for the perfect base. M.A.C. knows what they’re talking about when it comes to makeup, so a lot of its skincare perfectly supplements makeup. Oh, plus it’s got SPF!

Clinique Pep-Start Hydrorush Moisturizer SPF 20 (Rs 2,500)

5. Clinique

This moisturiser is lightweight, has SPF, and is perfect for day-time wear. Wear it under quick, light makeup and your skin will still look great. It’s a 2-in-1 blur primer and moisturiser.

PAC Water Base Moisturizer (Rs 650)

6. PAC

PAC works wonders for those on a budget. I swear by its professional tools and makeup. This moisturiser does its job without clogging your pores and stays put under makeup.

Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base (Rs 4,600)

7. Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown’s moisturisers are never greasy, which makes them perfect for makeup application. This product is a bestseller, infused with vitamins to keep your skin hydrated, with or without makeup.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel (Rs 3,750)

8. Clinique…Again

Clinique’s moisturisers are just that good! This one is a classic. Mix it with your foundation for lighter coverage, use it as a moisturiser, or as a primer. You can’t go wrong with this gel-based formula.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (Rs 2,630)

9. Clarins

This one works as a primer, moisturiser, and a face mask. You can leave on a thick layer. It evens out your skin for a smooth canvas for almost any makeup look.

Avéne Redness Relief Moisturizing Protecting Emulsion (Rs 1,200)

10. Avéne

Avéne’s formulas are tailormade for sensitive skin. If you’re unsure, then this is always a safe option. I use it on a weekly basis and it instantly makes my skin feel smooth and supple.
