‘Aithey Aa’ Is Nothing Like ‘Didi Tera Devar’. It’s Too Seductive To Be Anything Like It!

By  |

It’s 1983, India has just won what would be the first of many wins at the Cricket World Cup and the country is rejoicing in celebrations. That is the setting of the song Aithey aa that has just been released by the team of Bharat- Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s next outing.

The song looks like it might be a peppy number, where Kat can be seen in her version of 80s fashion. She has curly hair (pretty sure that has nothing to d0 with the 80s)  a saree that literally enunciates every curve (not sure that was an 80s thing) and one that she thrusts in our faces with each thumka (Wait, what 80s?). We aren’t entirely sure who was referencing the 80s because it’s done quite badly and they need to get into accounting or something asap.

In a statement made by director Ali, before the release of the song, he shared how, “Just imagine, if ‘Didi Tera Devar Deewana’ was reversed with Madhuri (Dixit) and Salman switching places… that’s what our song is. The brief was to create a peppy dance number with the entire family shaking a leg.”

Lies. Because, that song, that had become an anthem for everyone in its time for its lyrics, cast, beats, steps, moments everything, and this is nowhere close to that. Although we will admit, we spent major part of the song looking for that iconic moment where either will hit each other with a gende ka phool, but guess we are the fools here.

Didi Tera Devar was cheeky and fun. In this song, we are exposed to more butt cheek than anything else. Why the director thought that the two could or should be compared is beyond us. Nobody was seducing anyone in that song from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. In this song, Katrina is calling Salman Khan over in a manner that can best be described as rude.

While we are sure that the song will catch up, as most songs with little sense do these days, we certainly don’t want to draw a comparison to the very fun OG song.

The song that has been choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant, who also choreographed Mashallah for the actress, seems to not have let go of that feel!
