Gucci’s New Book Is Perfect For the Photography Enthusiast!

By  |

That Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele has been making waves for all the right reasons is old news. However, the fact that he’s inspired a series of exciting creative collaborations for the house is what keeps us glued to the brand season after season.

Now, here’s one more cool reason why we’re loving Gucci’s new avatar. While shooting the brand’s pre-fall lookbook for 2016 with photographer Ari Marcopoulos, the impressionistic images created at a Milanese villa (transformed into a scene from the ancient Greek city Pompeii) have been collected into a new book titled Epiphany. A nod to the Greek god Dionysus (also the name of a celebrity favourite bag from the brand’s collection), the dream-like photos give readers a behind-the-scenes look at the new collection in a fresh and fun way. “I, on purpose, didn’t photograph it romantically with soft lights,” Marcopoulos said in a recent interview. “I used a camera with a flash [to show] modern times inside an old place … There was more freedom in the book to make images where we would have some fun while doing them.”

The book is divided into three sections: the first and last feature black-and-white imagery, while the middle section contains colour imagery. The limited edition book will launch on May 5 with only 1,000 copies, which will be available for a month at New York’s Dover Street Market followed by other locations.

Epiphany comes inserted in a bright pink bubble wrap envelope with a holographic Gucci snake sticker on the front and a black silk screen-printed Gucci logo on the back.
