You Won’t Believe What Apple’s New 20k Launch Is!

After gracing the world with luxury products for the last 39 years, we’re always on the lookout for the next marvel the tech giant will come up with. People literally save their months of their salaries to be able to purchase these gadgets and, for the most part of it, they are worth it. But taking it to the next level, Apple launched a coffee table book yesterday, which costs around $300. Wait, there is more. The book consists of 450 images of Apple products. More than Rs 20,000 to look at pictures of the company’s gadgets that are already all over the internet. As our Chief Technology Officer says — it’s ridiculous!

The book titled Designed by Apple In California, is a hardcover, linen, white one that has been launched in the memory of Steve Jobs. Developed over 8 years, the book has images of products right from the iMac in 1998 to the Apple pencil in 2015. It is aimed at teaching design students of all disciplines, how and why these products exist. 20 years of design archives have been incorporated into one book, trying to tell us the how the minds of the creative team work. John Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, said, “This archive is intended to be a gentle gathering of many of the products the team has designed over the years. We hope it brings some understanding to how and why they exist, while serving as a resource for students of all design disciplines.”  The problem is, it doesn’t achieve that! Agreed, photographs can tell beautiful stories, but in this case, if you are not well-versed with the history of the gadget, you are just staring at a picture of a weird-looking gadget. It kind of looks like the company is trying to brag about how amazing it is, and how successful it has become over the years.

The images are shot by ace photographer, Andrew Zuckerman, known for taking pictures against stark white backgrounds. The book has 2 versions, the small one (10.20” x 12.75”) is priced at $199 (US), and the large (13” x 16.25”) at $299 (US). It is available at select Apple stores. If nothing, you can gift it to that crazy friend who owns every Apple gadget known to mankind or the one who has a poster of the Apple logo in their room.

That said and done, we really can’t comment on the success of the company. It is in a league of its own. Whether or not the book makes sense, you decide. But you should check out this video to learn more about the Apple journey.
