We Spent A Week With The New iPhone 7 (PRODUCT) Red And Here’s Why It’s Great!

In March, tech giant Apple gave the world a pleasant surprise. It launched its latest handsets, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, in a vibrant red colour, and almost instantly, it was the talk of the internet.

This sudden launch was in collaboration with (RED) — an organisation that works towards the prevention and eradication of HIV/AIDS — to mark its 10-year anniversary.

And as soon as this special edition baby hit the market, everyone wanted a piece of it!

Naturally, when I got the chance to review it, I was ecstatic. No, that would be an understatement; I was dancing around like a maniac child let loose in a playground, and wanted to fill the world with balloons and chocolates.

Umm, yeah.

Coming back to the product, I got the 256 GB iPhone 7 (PRODUCT) Red, and all of a sudden, everyone wanted to talk to me.

First Impressions

It took me a while to open the box and actually see the phone, let alone start using it. Once the perfect moment came, I knew that I was holding the most beautiful phone ever made, and trust me, I am not exaggerating.

This special edition iPhone 7 starts at a whopping Rs 82,000 for the 128GB model.

The design and colour are stunning. It has a matte finish that glistens beautifully in the light. The front bezel has been kept white, though popular (online) concensus suggests that black would have looked infinitely better. Other design elements that caught my eye were the silver ring around the touchpad and the silver apple logo at the back. The silver and red hues complement each other and give the product a seriously classy finish.

And apart from the design, the phone is exactly like the original iPhone 7.

While *I* kept it safe like I was handling a little baby, others around me were merciless. My colleagues played catch (gasp!) with it and clicked pictures like they had met their favourite celebrity. Naturally, my heart was beating faster than Usain Bolt’s sprint every time the phone was in someone else’s hands.

I’m happy to report though, that the red iPhone 7 passed various tests and came out alive.

Let’s Get Into The Details

Like the regular iPhone 7, the charging port doubles up as a headphone jack to give you your dose of music or movies. And knowing my careless nature, I’m happy about the fact that Apple provides an extra headphone cable with each phone.

Your selfie game (and, subsequently, your Instagram feed) will be strong thanks to the dual, 12-megapixel camera and 2x optical zoom. Yes, my phone is already full of images taken by my family, friends, colleagues, and aunties in the local train. Plus, the video quality is fantastic, almost as perfect as a professional camera. This quality really shines when teamed with the Clips app (available on iOS only), which helps you make amazing instant videos.

Available in 2 storage options, 128GB and 256GB, this phone is a notch above, when it comes to looks, and in this case, that’s all that matters.

Since I was using an android phone before this iPhone came along, it was a nice switch, to say the least. It took some time to get a hang of the software, but once the initial goof-ups and embarrassment of not knowing how to use an iPhone were overcome, it was a smooth ride.

It’s Luxury Personified

The funny thing is, as soon as word got out that I was now in possession of the coolest kid in the Apple family, my desk became everyone’s favourite hangout spot in office. People who didn’t even know me came by to take selfies with the phone (!), giving me forced smiles and vacuous vibes.

I started getting messages from friends and their acquaintances, wanting to know every minute detail about it. Travelling with the phone was a little scary in the beginning, but I’m slowly getting used to it. Still not okay with people swinging it in the air though.

If you want to feel like royalty, go ahead and buy this bright red spark of sunshine. But, honestly, if you recently bought the black or rose gold iPhone 7, it is not worth the splurge. Buy it if you are looking for a new phone that REALLY stands out, or if you want to donate to a good cause.

Plus, you don’t have to buy a cover to make it look pretty. Although, a transparent one will be a good idea.

Now, excuse me while I go and check on my baby.

After all, you cannot leave it unattended for long.

Trust no one.
