Being single in Bombay is hard, ya’ll, and if you’re reading this, you probably don’t need me to tell you that, especially if you’ve been following our Managing editor, B’s dating (mis)adventures here. If you’ve been down the whole Tinder/Hinge/Woo route and now feel like you’ve left swiped on all the potential men in Mumbai, then sit down girl, ’cause I’ve scoped out 4 under-the-radar dating apps that’ll help you scope out your next prince charming.
Appetence – Slow & Private Dating App
If you’re the kind of girl who would like to be defined by more than just a picture on your profile, check out Appetence, an app which aims to make you fall in love with conversation, rather than appearances. The app essentially covers your photo with a grid till your match earns the right to see your photo, by conversing with you on common interests. You essentially select 12 tastes and interests, in order to find someone compatible with you. For example, tea or coffee; early bird; country side cottage; go with the flow; etc.
Available only on iOS devices, at the moment.
Coffee Meets Bagel
Tired of swiping right on that gorgeous boy toy, only to never hear back? Well then, you need to check out the Coffee Meets Bagel app. What makes the app cool is that the guys make the first move and you only receive a specific number of pre-selected matches a day, which you can accept or decline. The app’s algorithm figures out your preferences and starts showing more relevant matches with time.
If you’re looking for more than just your next temporary bae, you might want to consider Aisle, the self-proclaimed dating app for meaningful relationships. The app prides itself on exclusivity and all potential members have to apply for membership — yup, you read that right. You have to fill in a very tedious application process. All members are screened, so thankfully, you are left with anything but riff-raff.
Down dating makes no qualms about being beyond the whole realm of dating BS, where you say one thing and mean the other. You either choose to ‘get down’ if you’re ready for a casual date type situation, or you could ‘get date’ if you’re looking for more than a blanket buddy.
