How To Clean All Types Of Shoes In Your Closet!

Let’s just start off by saying that a girl can never have enough shoes. So, even though most of our closets are overflowing and threatening to burst at the seams with shoes, a girl must have what she must have. Especially because there are seasons, colours, shapes, and styles involved!

And of course, we do try space saving hacks like stacking one on top of the other, or storing them upright but invariably, the dirt from one shoe always lands up on the other. Or may be that’s just me. Cleaning up my shoe closet usually takes an entire day, a very potent bottle of wine, and a long playlist . Though, it probably ends up taking longer because of the bottle of wine. We digress. I usually end up having to stop several times only to do searches on how to clean the shoes based on its texture and material. I thought I would help you out. I put together several tips and tricks on how to clean each kind of shoe. Yes, thank me later.

1. Leather

The perfect way to get rid of stains is to use a dry cloth to wipe off the dirt before you use any liquid on it. Make a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar over the stains and buff the stains away. Wipe it off with a dry cloth again, and if the stain still remains, then repeat the process. Your shoe might not smell great but hey, at least it’s clean. The smell actually goes away when it dries.

2. Suede

The divas of the shoe world, you’ll have to make sure that you tackle it only when the shoe is completely dry. Use a scrub brush to buff the stains away. Once the dirt is off the surface, apply pressure and go back and forth with the brush to remove the deep stains. Stubborn marks on the suede can be handled with a special suede eraser. After you are done cleaning it, make sure to coat with with a suede protector spray.

3. Canvas

The key to cleaning shoes is to make sure that they are completely dry before you start cleaning them. Wipe the dirt off the canvas, and clean it with a toothbrush. Make a solution of equal parts baking soda and water to clean the shoe and rinse it. Repeat the process till the stains come out. In order to speed up the drying time, use a tissue paper and put it on the canvas fabric so the water gets absorbed quickly.

4. Rubber

Rubber is the easiest material to clean since the texture is very durable. You don’t need to use anything that is too harsh. You don’t need to whip up a concoction or anything. Use a clean cloth and wipe the dirt and and stains away! Yup, that easy.

5. Running Shoes

Remove the laces and toss them in the laundry while you clean up the shoes. You can use a toothbrush to clean loose dirt off the shoe,  or dip it into a solution of  laundry detergent and water. You can use this method on the fabric, mesh, as well as the rubber areas.
