Women Simply Aren’t Patriotic Enough, According To The Gold Trailer

The trailer of Gold released today. In the actors mentioned below the video, Mouni Roy, the actress who plays wife to Akshay Kumar is the second name. The trailer is a 2-minute 18-second trailer about India’s quest to play hockey as an independent nation after years of British rule. But there’s something else we learned also from the trailer today. That while patriotism was being distributed generously (mostly to Akshay Kumar), the women were standing in another line where they were serving up mom/wife roles.

So, while you see Akshay Kumar delivering dialogues in a booming voice, slow-mo montages of his face in the rain, and a variety of scenes to show off his acting chops, Mouni gets exactly *does a quick check to be really precise* 6 seconds on screen where she says something of significance.

As you continue to watch the trailer, she appears almost nowhere else. Oh, except in a montage where she’s grooving to something. I promise you, the Indian flag has more footage in this trailer than Mouni.

Given that this movie is written by Reema Kagti, the woman behind movies like Dil Dhadakne Do, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and the like, I was expecting more. Must women only play praying wives and doting mothers? Can they not do something significant in a patriotic movie?

We will wait while you answer.
