What Will Priyanka Chopra Wear To The Oscars?

What Will Priyanka Chopra Wear To The Oscars?

Let’s officially agree to call 2016 the Year Of Priyanka Chopra. Why? The Bollywood actress has arrived internationally. What started off with an international album two years ago gave rise to her bagging the lead role in the hit American TV show Quantico last year. This year, the actress nabbed Elle USA’s annual Women in TV issue cover, apart from becoming the first South Asian woman to receive the People’s Choice Award for Best Actress In A TV Show.

Earlier this week, the actress attended the 22nd Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards alongside the who’s who of Hollywood. She took the red carpet by storm in a pink off-shoulder lace mesh gown by designer Monique Lhuillier. And while we were still soaking all of that in, we spotted her name on the official list of presenters at the 2016 Oscars later this month. She’s sharing presenter duties with legends like Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. Talk about slaying it on international shores and that’s exactly what PeeCee is up to!

Amidst the countless accolades she’s receiving on social media, the one BIG question everyone wants an answer to is: What will PeeCee wear to the Oscars? In fact, in response to a well-wisher, Priyanka tweeted: “… Now The Hunt For The Perfect Dress Begins.” In an interview with Hindustan Times, her prompt response to what she’d be wearing to the grand event was, “Comfort is key. I like to feel good in what I’m wearing, but I don’t let anyone dictate what I should wear either.”

With the Oscars barely 24 days away, the curious fashion bug has bitten us already. Will she work her go-to column gown or opt for an off-shoulder number, or both? What are the chances of her wearing an Indian designer, instead of an international one? What about internationally known desi names like Bibhu Mohapatra or Prabal Gurung? While we have no doubts that Priyanka will definitely look her best on the big night, we’re taking some calculated guesses on who/what she might wear based on her past sartorial choices. Take a look at some of our options below and tell us what you think!

Zuhair Murad 1 Spring 2016_Hauterfly
Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Couture

This light colour is such an unusual one for the red carpet. I can’t recollect any stunning looks in this hue apart from Lupita Nyong’o’s grecian Prada gown in 2014. This floral-embroidered Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Couture gown with a thigh-high slit is a perfect choice for Priyanka. We’ve seen her working an off-shouldered gown with ease, be it the Monique Lhuillier one at the SAG Awards or the Toni Maticevski at the Star Guild Awards 2015.

Roberto Cavalli 1 Pre Fall 2016_Hauterfly
Roberto Cavalli Pre Fall 2016

Shimmer has always been a good choice for stars at the Oscars; recall Anne Hathaway in a strapless Armani Privé gown in 2009 or Julianne Moore in a stunning custom-made Chanel last year. This dramatic sequinned dress from Roberto Cavalli’s 2016 Pre Fall collection is so apt keeping in mind Priyanka’s hourglass figure. Also, she could totally head to the post-awards party in this number, no?

Prabal Gurung Spring 2016_Hauterfly
Prabal Gurung Spring 2016

We’re curious to see if Priyanka will opt for an Indian designer, or maybe even Nepal’s most famous export Prabal Gurung. His designs are A-list regulars on the red carpet; we’ve seen everyone from Jennifer Lawrence to Zoe Saldana wearing his creations. In fact, Amy Schumer just wore a gown from his collection for the 2016 Golden Globes. This off-shouldered gown in pale yellow is simple yet chic.

This geometrical patch-worked and embroidered Atelier Versace gown is such a great choice for Priyanka. For the 59th Idea Filmfare Awards, the actress opted for a similar silhouette wearing an Alexander McQueen gown. As far as this one is concerned, we love the bright blue accents on the black number. That sliver of skin display thanks to the partial sheer on the skirt is something Priynaka can pull off really well!

Gaurav Gupta LFW_Hauterfly
Gaurav Gupta LFW Winter/Festive 2015

In case Priyanka opts for an Indian designer, Gaurav Gupta’s stunning LFW Grand Finale collection is the one that comes to mind. There’s no better designer we’d love to see on an international platform like Oscars. Come to think of it, ANY Indian designer she chooses will really blow up on social media. This black gown with an asymmetrical skirt, ruffled collar and partial sheered bodice is such a bold choice for the star.

Marchesa Pre Fall 2016_Hauterfly
Marchesa Pre Fall 2016

Pristine white is a hue that complements Priyanka’s dusky complexion so well, and we can’t wait to see if she’ll opt for the same at the Oscars. This Marchesa Pre Fall 2016 gown has such an old-world charm thanks to the cut. Love the jewelled bodice.

Bibhu Mohapatra Resort 2016_Hauterfly

Another Indian-origin designer’s creation we’d want to see on the actress is Bibhu Mohapatra. This pale pink gown with black insets is not just one with a classic silhouette, but is also off-shouldered, a style that Priyanka is known to prefer. Love the colour of the gown; it adds such a feminine touch.
