6 Key Trends From India Couture Week 2018, For Wedding & Festive Season

One of India’s biggest fashion extravaganzas – The India Couture Week 2018 recently concluded. It was the cynosure of all eyes and saw new and veteran designers present their bridal and evening wear collections.

Most fashion weeks have one universal similarity: They inspire. As we slowly step into the festive and wedding season, ICW 2018 served up some major inspiration. While there were a ton of new looks and ideas presented on the runway, here are 6 key trends we cannot stop thinking about and are totally on board with! Scroll through to see the key trends.

1. Wedding lehengas with veils

The world is a melting pot where all cultures and countries influence one another. Fashion is no different, taking the concept of a veil from the west, designers have put them into wedding lehengas.

Lehengas with dupattas that flow into a long tulle trail was a major trend at ICW 2018. From Shyamal and Bhumika to Tarun Tahiliani, and Suneet Verma, designers presented veil style dupattas with tiny embroidery and 3D appliques.

2. Plunging Square Neckline Cholis

The past few seasons have been all about showing off your décolleté. While some might find it a little risque, we are loving the  strong, low necklines.  Designers have (thankfully) left the off-shoulder and one-shoulder cholis behind. Square necklines that are deeper and wider were a key trend spotted on the ICW runway. Reynu Tandon’s showstopper, Yami Gautam wore a plunging square neckline choli.

3. Capes 2.0

One trend that transcended from last season and made an appearance on this season’s runway as well, is the cape. Cape style cholis and blouses, in vibrant colours with strong shoulders were seen in most designers’ collections. The capes have ruffles and tassels, on the hem or all over, with intricate embroidery to match the rest of the look.

4. Ruffles and Oh’s

From ruffled hems to elaborate saree gowns, dramatic, ruffled sleeves to lehengas that have mini tulle and organza ruffles, it is safe to say that, ruffles were all over the runway.

5. 3D Applique

Moving away from the classic mirror work, zardozi work and thread work embroidery, designers have now showcased vivid 3-dimensional embroidery.

Floral 3D motifs, especially, were aplenty on the runway. Not only is this trend fresh and stands out, these pieces also make for great twirling videos.

6. Sparkling Eyes

In terms of makeup, it looks like matte is out and gloss is in. Models walked down the ramp rocking glossy lips with glittery, sparkling eyes. A subtle and luminous sheen on the skin, with lightly lashed eyes, complemented the glittery look.
