Simi’s New Necktie Dress Is Such A Sassy Piece

Simi’s New Necktie Dress Is Such A Sassy Piece

Remember the ’90s choker that was quite a rage? Whether you were a Goth or not, you did own one. Confession time: I had one of my own too — a stretchy tattoo choker that was my go-to piece in my tomboy turned girly-girl phase. My mother conveniently thought it looked very “down market”, so I was warned against wearing it when I stepped out of my home.

Now that we’ve made it to 2016, guess what’s back with a bang? The same ol’ 90s choker. IMO, it does look darn cool. In fact, for my weekly column Simi’s Steals, I was looking out for a V-neck dress that I could team up with a fabric choker and accessorise with a pair of block-heeled mules. But sigh… it just didn’t make it in my 3k budget.

But the fashion sleuth that I am (and a very lucky one too!), I managed to find a super chic alternative to the look I wanted to create. This necktie dress from Topshop (available on Jabong) gives me the exact same vibe that I wanted to work. I know that not everyone is a choker fan. Nonetheless, if you’re someone who’s been checking out trends, you’ll know that the thin scarf is a key accessory this year. And this dress does perfect double duty to pull off the thin scarf trend as well — though the necktie is attached to the back of the dress, it does give an illusion of a thin scarf tied around the neck.

Not to mention, emerald green is one of my all-time favourite hues. I think it’s got way more potential than just being tagged as a Christmas time colour. I’d suggest you pair this chic dress with a pair of ankle-strap heels for a sassy evening look. Now go shop it before it’s gone!
