Boi’s Budget Buys: The Desi Fusion Look

Boi’s Budget Buys: The Desi Fusion Look

One universal fashion problem for most girls is, “What do I wear today?” This question has the power to reduce us to a hysterical mess. Fashionista or not, nobody wants sartorial answers that cost a fortune. And let’s just be honest, you’re THE style star if you know how to dress to the nines on a budget. So I’ve taken up this Herculean task: every Saturday, I’ll round up a budget-friendly ensemble for you, all BELOW Rs 10,000. Yes! It’s going to be an entire outfit — from head-to-toe — without breaking the bank. Quite a challenge, right? Scroll down to shop this budget ensemble, and don’t forget to come back every Saturday to discover an outfit that’s yet another steal!

Do you know where our Hauterfly HQ has moved to? Kurla. Do you know where in Kurla? The Phoenix Market City compound. Do you know what means?

Well, for those of you familiar with Bombay, you’ll know that this mall is the biggest one malls in the city, if not in the country. This also means — broke. My team and I now spend so much time in the mall, buying coffee, food, and of course, indulging in tons of retail therapy.

But, the bright side to this is that even though collectively we’re pretty poor, at least our #OOTDs are on-point, every day.

So on my recent l’il splurging trip, I walked into H&M, of course, (one of my all-time fave high-street stores) and bought these kickass pair of golden sneakers (scroll down to see the beauts). But I also walked into a store I usually don’t, but I’m so glad now that I did.

Global Desi by Anita Dongre is a real treat to sore eyes. The colours, the textures, the prints — it’s like stepping into sartorial heaven, especially for those who love a good fusion style. Global Desi is all about bright colours, soft, breathable fabrics, and super flattering silhouettes.

I went pretty nutsy in the changing room, trying on anything that would fit. Incidentally, that’s not much, because, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m a tiny person. I didn’t even bother going towards the pajamas and palazzos, even though they were calling out to me.

What did fit me like a dream and won me over to checkout was this beautiful orange and gold high-waisted pleated skirt. Isn’t it so lovely? OK, I admit, I’m biased towards orange, but c’mon — look at it!

I’m teaming this skirt this week with a plain white bodysuit from Forever 21, because the skirt is the heroine piece of the look, and orange and white make for the perfect summer combination. And of course, I had to add my kickass new golden kicks! So cool, so chic, so desi, yet edgy.

A chunky choker from Pipa Bella, which is called the Warrior choker (girl power, y’all), and a big statement ring from Accessorize to complement it complete the look.

But hey, wait! Did you think I forgot about our favourite can’t-live-without accessory? Nope. Who steps out of the house without a bag, right? I picked a muted brown textured cross-body for this look because I think the shoes and the skirt add enough of bling, don’t you?

Guys, I gotta say, I’m definitely going back to Global Desi. In fact, I’m planning to hit up other similar indigenous fusion-y brands. Do y’all have any reccos? Let me know in the comments below or tweet at me @Chat_Boi, so that I can go and create more fun budget looks for you guys! Till next week, my lovelies.
