Simi’s Steals: The Little Plaid Skirt

Simi’s Steals: The Little Plaid Skirt

One universal fashion problem for most girls is, “What do I wear today?” This question has the power to reduce us to a hysterical mess. Fashionista or not, nobody wants sartorial answers that cost a fortune. And let’s just be honest, you’re THE style star if you know how to dress to the nines on a budget. So I’ve taken up this Herculean task: Every Saturday, I’ll round up a budget-friendly ensemble for you, all BELOW Rs 3,000. Yes! It’s going to be an entire outfit — from head-to-toe — without breaking the bank. Quite a challenge, right? Scroll down to shop this budget ensemble, and don’t forget to come back every Saturday to discover an outfit that’s yet another steal!

I think the convent school girl in me will never die. That’s probably where I picked up my love for fashion’s classics, like crisp white shirts and plaid. I love plaid because it’s got such a 90s grunge vibe to it. However, it is revived with a modernist approach every few seasons. In fact, plaid was celebrated in the Spring Summer 2016 collections designers by like Stella McCartney, Marissa Webb, Marc Jacobs, Victoria Beckham, and even Thakoon.

If you think plaid is just for fall, you’re mistaken. While it has traditionally been a winter favourite, this chequered fabric can totally work for other seasons as well. A plaid shirt teamed up with a pair of black pants and brogues looks ideal for work. What about a weekend getaway, you ask? Try a pair of plaid shorts with a cami top and comfy slip-ons. Or a plaid mini dress with a pair of mules is so apt for a fun date with the boy. See? Plaid’s the answer no matter what the question (or occasion).

This week, my key piece is a little plaid A-line skirt from The Style Syndrome. I can’t tell you how cute it looks, it’s such a perfect piece to own. I’ve teamed it up with a basic slogan tee from one of my favourite high street brands, Mango. This look’s got a very casual, androgynous vibe. I was thinking a Saturday chill session with the girl gang, so I decided to add a pair of white sneakers to the mix. Because you need to be comfortable when you’re chilling with friends.

Also, can I take this opportunity to tell you that the price point for the entire ensemble is below Rs 3,000? Just add a black quilted cross-body bag to complete this uber cute look.
