Masaba Gupta’s Lessons On How To Be An Unconventional Bride

Designer Masaba Gupta’s wedding to Bollywood producer Madhu Mantena was nothing short of a star-studded, three-day celebration. Celebrity friends showed up in full force, including Sonam Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapur with wife Mira Rajput, Alia Bhatt, Aditi Rao Hydari, Pernia Qureshi, designer-mentor Wendell Rodricks as well as fashion industry friends like Shivan & Narresh.

But that’s not the only thing that caught our attention. Worth mentioning was the designer’s choice of outfits for her various dos. Far from being absolutely traditional and decked out from head-to-toe in blingy jewels, we loved Masaba’s off-beat outfit selections and easy styling. This was one bride who valued being comfortable yet chic at all times, and we could all take lessons from this.

Wearing a white and gold outfit of her own design to the mehendi function, Masaba skipped the regular bright hues of Indian weddings for a more sedate kurta and lehenga, accentuated with geometric embroidery. She added large chaand-baalis and fun metallic tattoos to complete the look. Perfect.

For the sangeet, the designer opted for a stunning fuchsia and gold brocade lehenga by Sanjay Garg, which she teamed with a gorgeous neckpiece from Amrapali. She kept the make-up clean and simple; exaggerated cat-eyeliner and bright orange lips perfectly matched the ensemble. This was our favourite look from the wedding and gave us serious #bridalgoals!

The outfit for Masaba’s reception was a white and black Anamika Khanna lehenga choli with a heavily-embellished cape. While the outfit in itself was superb in its simplicity, the embellishments on the blouse didn’t impress us much (funnily enough, the designer herself did a sly take-down of her outfit on Instagram before the Fashion Police went crazy. Smart!) There’s a big lesson to be learnt here, ladies: Listen to your designer. More often than not, he/she does know best!

That aside though, we do think the bride looked incredibly happy and shone in all her outfits, staying true to her fuss-free and easy chic aesthetic. If you’re planning a wedding anytime soon, this is some great style inspiration to get you started.
