#HauteHack: How To Remove Wrinkles Without An Iron
I remember saying this to a friend earlier this week: It’s amazing how a shirt can go from wrinkle-free to creased in a matter of minutes, regardless of how much time you spent religiously ironing it in the morning. #CommuterProblems.
But the thing that’s most upsetting? The fact that sometimes even the flattest iron boards or your pro ironing skills don’t work in de-wrinkling your outfits.
And then there are those crucial moments when you really need the perfect, wrinkle-free outfit. I clearly remember this one time when I had to go for a job interview. I was looking forward to wearing my favourite white shirt with a pair of linen trousers, and right then my iron decided to act up and stopped functioning. Oh, the horror!
Though that day I learnt my lesson about ALWAYS ironing my clothes a day prior (yes Mom, you’re always right!), there was one question that bugged me: What about those times when I urgently need a wrinkle-free outfit but can’t find one in my wardrobe (AND there’s no iron)? And right then, I found the answer to my worry in the form of a style hack.
Here’s what you’ve got to do. Set your washing machine’s dryer to the highest setting. Now toss your wrinkled garments in along with a couple of ice cubes. Turn on the dryer for about 10 minutes, and voila! You’ll get wrinkle-free clothes in a jiffy! This is what happens: The hot setting on the dryer makes the ice cubes melt, converting them into steam. The steam, in turn, de-wrinkles your clothes.
Remember, this trick works best with a maximum of three garments at a time. Also, I recommend that you not place more than three to four ice cubes inside the dryer.
Note: This hack does not work on heavy fabrics.
