Was This The Best Filmfare Red Carpet Style Yet?

If your weekend hasn’t kicked off yet, here’s some sartorial delight to start a not-so-thrilling day. The 61st Annual Britannia Filmfare Awards took place last night, and it was nothing less than a carnival for the divas, the fashionistas and the style critics. There were some serious va-va-voom moments: I’m still reeling from some of the unexpected moves I witnessed from the likes of Huma Qureshi, Parineeti Chopra, and…wait for this one…Kajal Aggarwal. Was this one of the best Filmfare red carpets yet? I think it’ll be a yes for me. Don’t believe me? Scroll on as I give you a low-down of all the looks that stood out.

Deepika Padukone Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly
1. DEEPIKA PADUKONE

If there’s one actress who ruled both the silver screen and the red carpet last year, it was Deepika Padukone. Who else could pair flared trousers with an off-shouldered dress to the Big Star Entertainment Awards and still be the talk of the town? Looks like her style stroke has followed her in 2016 as well. It was a fire-engine red Ralph & Russo gown for the dimpled diva last night, one she paired with jewellery from Anmol. That open cowl-back was the star feature of this gown; all the brownie points goes to it. Also, anyone else thinks her signature move is all about donning monotone from head-to toe? This time, she’s worked all red, even maintaining a bold red pout. This look could have gone massively wrong had it been some other actress. But Ms Padukone — she’s such a stunner.

Kriti Sanon Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

2. KRITI SANON

It was a custommade Nikhil Thampi gown for actress Kriti Sanon. The powder-blue hue was quite an unexpected colour for a red carpet event, and that’s what I loved most about this gown. Everything from the one-shoulder style to the slit, as well as the cut-out on the waist, only helped complement the star. I like that she kept to a side-swept hairdo for this attire, it only added to the softness of the look. She accessorised with a box clutch and a diamond bangle. Quite an emerging style icon she’s turning to be!

Huma Qureshi Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

3. HUMA QURESHI

Talk about a fashion ‘aha’ moment, that’s what I think about Huma Qureshi’s look. Love all that elegance that she exudes in a Mayur Girotra one-shouldered gown, with heavy floral embroidery on the skirt. She completed her look with a serpent cuff and Farah Khan Jewellery ring. All the subtle drama was created thanks to that hairstyle, don’t you think? And that bold pink hue on her lips; what a chic contrast. LOVE! Frankly, if this is how she graces the red carpet, we’ll want the Filmfare Awards to happen all year around.

Neha Dhupia Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

4. NEHA DHUPIA

That Gauri & Nainika gown Neha Dhupia opted for is so pretty, don’t you think? Though it was quite unlike her usual red carpet fare as she skipped her bold avatar for something highly feminine and light. I am not too kicked about the white clutch she’s accessorised the gown with, nonetheless she still pulls it off well. What do I say! Quite a style star she is.

Athiya Shetty Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

4. ATHIYA SHETTY

Fashion’s new-kid-on-the-block has some true gems in her style archives, and so I was really keen to know what she’d bring forward this time around. Did she make a mark, yet again? No doubt! That navy Monisha Jaising gown was a superb choice given the event in question. A vibrant colour on a classic silhouette, that’s what this ensemble was about. And I like that she let the gown do all the talking rather than going overboard with accessories or make-up!

Aditi Rao Hydari Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

6. ADITI RAO HYDARI

Another Gauri & Nainika sighting on the red carpet was on style star Aditi Rao Hydari. While Neha Dhupia and Aditi’s gown was similar as far as the silhouette was concerned, it was way different in terms of styling. Firstly, that delicate mint colour looks great on Aditi’s glowing complexion. And while there were high chances of this turning into a flushed-out look, I think she pulled it off with so much grace. Aditi accessorised with delicate danglers from Isharya.

Sonam Kapoor Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

7. SONAM KAPOOR

Wearing an Anamika Khanna lehenga along with a statement emerald neckpiece from Heeramaneck & Sons, Sonam arrived on the Filmfare red carpet looking ethereal. She stuck to her signature style nous, and it was similar to the looks she’s donned before. I did expect something more from the actress given her past stylish record. That said, her ensemble was lovely!

8. PARINEETI CHOPRA

Here’s another star who’s back with a vengeance, and she’s slaying the red carpet with her style. This time it was a sexy Shivan & Narresh cut-out gown with a thigh-high slit for Parineeti. And it seems like the gown was tailored to complement her. I like that she balanced the bold outfit with a slogan clutch from Judith Leiber. She accessorised with Steve Madden heels and earrings from Isharya. Nice!

Jacqueline Fernandez Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

9. JACQUELINE FERNANDEZ

This stunning star swept onto the red carpet last night in a Hussein Bazaza intricate lace gown, which she teamed with jewellery by Mahesh Notandas and The Line. Black magic! No exaggeration whatsoever; that’s what I thought of this look. I think ONLY she can carry off this gown with so much ease. Had it been worn by someone else, I’m sure it would be an eyebrow-raising deal, but that sheer look on Jacqueline is absolute gorgeousness.

Kajal Aggarwal Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

10. KAJAL AGGARWAL

This was the unexpected look of the day. As I saw this picture of Kajal Aggarwal on Instagram, I did my patent ‘OK THEN!’ expression; just that this time it had no negative connotation whatsoever. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. Everything from that hot pink shade of the custom-made Swapnil Shinde gown to the décolletage-display and even the fuss-free make-up and hair; I think the look in entirety was great.

Alia Bhatt Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

11. ALIA BHATT

And the look of the day goes to Alia Bhatt! That’s some ‘wow’ styling, isn’t it? I’ve noticed that Alia can practically carry off any silhouette, and that’s such an advantage. But it’s nice how age-appropriately she decks up at most times. This Sachin & Babi ensemble has a youthful spunk to it; it’s vibrant and cute at once. She teamed it up with a pair of Manolo Blahnik pumps — two different colour on each feet — and yet walked out as a head turner. I quite like!

Patralekha Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

12. PATRALEKHA

It was a hat-trick for designers Gauri & Nainika, as Patralekha was spotted in their Spring Summer 2015 creation. I think the actress grabbed the attention of the fashion world with this look. The floral detailing on the gown is lovely — that yellow hue adds a spunk to the otherwise stark white gown. Patralekha looked fine in this ensemble. The make-up and hairdo was on-fleek, and I liked that there was minimal accessories involved.

Ileana DCruz Britannia Filmfare Awards 2016_Hauterfly

13. ILEANA D’CRUZ

She’s been a little away from the style scene, but we’ve not forgotten what a stunner she can be when she makes an appearance! Ileana D’Cruz struck a fierce pose looking lovely in that red studded Nachiket Barve gown. She finished her look with a nude Louboutin oval clutch and a pair of black pumps. We’re hoping to see more looks from her end this year.
