This Is Jewellery For The Heart And Soul
Conceptual jewellery designer Eina Ahluwalia is the sort of woman you want to be friends with. Every year, she comes up with beautiful collections that are full of fascinating stories. Something tells me the designer herself must be brimming with wonderfully eloquent anecdotes of her travels and theme explorations, which serve as inspiration for her stunning jewellery.
But it’s not just the stories; it’s the soul of the brand that captivates you as well. Each piece is handcrafted by master craftsmen in her hometown of Kolkata, to keep alive skills that have been passed down from generations but are being lost to mass production. Her signature style is sculptural shapes, artful motifs and intricate jali work – a disappearing art, with just a handful of craftsmen remaining who’ve honed their skill to such perfection that those pieces are often mistaken as having been laser or machine cut.
Her newest collection Paradisiac is an ode to this soulfulness, and a reminder that we’re all part of the same sacred geometry that lies at the heart of creation – that we may look and feel different but in essence we’re all exactly the same. It’s also her first foray into fine gold jewellery, and it’s been hard for me to pick a favourite. But I think I’ve finally zeroed in on the one I want: an 18-karat gold-plated, three-finger ring with sacred geometry star motifs attached to a chain, and set in silver.
I love jewellery that can make a statement without being too over-the-top, so this piece will make a perfect new addition to my growing ring collection. With the festive season up ahead, I can see myself wearing it with both ethnic outfits as well as a dressed up denim look for the evening. Talk about a chic, multi-tasking product!
As the designer herself says about the collection’s theme, “From the farthest reaches of the cosmos to the atomic structure of a single cell within the body, the same laws of form and mathematics apply to everything in nature. We are all created on the same geometric archetypes, we are each perfect fractals of the same whole; no matter how different our physicality may be, and we are essentially all the same.”
With life-affirming stories that touch you like that, how can you not be prompted to proudly wear her pieces?
