Baishali Is Gearing Up For The Bengali New Year In These Pretty Jhumkas
Bengali New Year is just a few days away, and I’ll admit — I can’t keep calm (also, I think keeping calm is totally overrated, but that’s a different issue). It’s one of my favourite times of the year (apart from Durga Pujo, of course), because this is when my Bong friends and I dress up in the traditional Bengali way, complete with saree, bindi, bangles, and even sindoor for some of us! And there’s nothing quite like being desi for us desi girls, no?
Since it is New Year and all, I decided it was time for a bit of a splurge. And it always makes my mother uber happy when I decide to direct these splurges toward jewellery.
And since I’m pretty time-crunched (read: lazy), I started sifting through some of my favourite online jewellery portals for the perfect buy. And whadya know! I found what I was looking for.
In case you were wondering, these are rose gold and amethyst jhumkas with a filigree design. *insert heart-eyed emoji* I’ll tell you what my favourite part of jhumkas are — not the way they look, but rather, I love the sound they make.
The little drops or bells always make a dainty musical sound when you’re walking or generally moving around, and I love that.
But what actually struck me about this pair from Caratlane’s Enchanted collection was how the rose gold hue complemented the amethyst stone so beautifully — it was like a match made in bauble heaven.
These are the kind of earrings I would wear with a bare neck, a stack of bangles, and one of my mom’s lovely silk sarees — with a huge red bindi, of course.
Ahh, excitement! Can it be New Year already? Oh, and Shubho Noboborsho!
