Boi’s Budget Buys: The Summer Work Look
One universal fashion problem for most girls is, “What do I wear today?” This question has the power to reduce us to a hysterical mess. Fashionista or not, nobody wants sartorial answers that cost a fortune. And let’s just be honest, you’re THE style star if you know how to dress to the nines on a budget. So I’ve taken up this Herculean task: every Saturday, I’ll round up a budget-friendly ensemble for you, all BELOW Rs 10,000. Yes! It’s going to be an entire outfit — from head-to-toe — without breaking the bank. Quite a challenge, right? Scroll down to shop this budget ensemble, and don’t forget to come back every Saturday to discover an outfit that’s yet another steal!
You know what the first thing I do when it hits summer — I pretty much stop giving a flying f*ck about what I’m wearing to work. This lasts a few days, when the heat is suddenly unbearable and everyone around is falling sick. After which, I come back to my senses and start dressing summer-appropriate.
Now while I can actually wear shorts and a T-shirt to work, I see many women on my way to work dressed uncomfortably in fitted formal clothes. My heart goes out to them. I’m sure many of you can relate.
The trick is to keep it comfortable and chic while remaining in the formal space? Don’t think it can be done? What? Don’t believe that formals can be comfy? Let me show you the way.
Summer is all about bright colours and light, breathable fabrics, which is where this beautiful shirt from Van Heusen steps in. Would you look at that colour?! And hey, it’s totally work appropriate, no matter where you work.
Pair this bright shirt with a pair of easy-breezy yet structured palazzos in a monotone — like this striped pair from Threesome on Jabong. The orange quite perfectly offsets the monochrome, and the final look you get is pretty darn eye-catching.
Since the shirt is so vivid, I decided to go nude on the accessories. The nude wedges from Ajio adds the perfect height you need for palazzos — because, let’s face it, palazzos with flats just don’t work.
The bag from Koovs is a reversible tote, and you know what that means? It’s work on one side, and a party on the other. Don’t you love yourself a multi-purpose product?
If you know me at all by now, you’ll know that I love meself some bling — yes, it can be done even at work, as long as it’s kept subtle. Subtle and bling, you ask? Here’s how.
These stunning pair of monochrome stone studs from H&M. It’s one of those pieces you can take quite easily from boardroom to bar, and no, no one will give you the stink eye.
And last but definitely not the least during this extremely sunny summer season, are shades. Try stepping out of the house without a pair, and risk getting blinded by the sun.
My pick for this week is this mirrored browline pair from Forever 21 — it’s like getting Cara Delevigne’s eyebrows on your sunglasses! WHAT?!
So see, work wear can totes be stylish and comfortable, despite the rising mercury outside or the arctic air-conditioning temperatures inside the office (we’ve all been there). Keep it structured and sharp, but light and airy — it’ll be a win-win.
