Boi’s Budget Buys: The Period-Friendly Look

Boi’s Budget Buys: The Period-Friendly Look

One universal fashion problem for most girls is, “What do I wear today?” This question has the power to reduce us to a hysterical mess. Fashionista or not, nobody wants sartorial answers that cost a fortune. And let’s just be honest, you’re THE style star if you know how to dress to the nines on a budget. So I’ve taken up this Herculean task: every Saturday, I’ll round up a budget-friendly ensemble for you, all BELOW Rs 10,000. Yes! It’s going to be an entire outfit — from head-to-toe — without breaking the bank. Quite a challenge, right? Scroll down to shop this budget ensemble, and don’t forget to come back every Saturday to discover an outfit that’s yet another steal!

So for most of the time, I love being a woman. Whether it’s my mind, body, heart, choices — everything about my gender makes me thank God every day. Except for 5 days every month when the red river starts flowing. That’s right, every month I curse my luck and pretty much everything around me when I get my period. Sure, it’s a sign I’m not pregnant (again, thank you, God), and it’s also a sign that my body is healthy and happy…BUT! The cramps, the discomfort, the bloaty feeling in my tummy, the out-of-control hormones leading to a very sappy, emotional me, and the general hatred for everything is not fun, to say the least. It’s even worse when your male BFF or bae decides to ask, “You’re PMSing, aren’t you?” Urgh.

During my period, I do not like getting out of bed, let alone dressing well and looking good. Basically, I couldn’t give a sh*t. But I also *hate* looking in the mirror and feeling frumpy or not-stylish. I just get crankier and more hormonal *run for your lives*.

So after many years of trials and errors, I figured out that it is possible to dress super comfy (read: nothing pressing into your uterus) and look stylish at the same time. I know, clearly it took me longer than others, but hey, Imma blame it on the hormones.

Since my uterus is taking some form of revenge on me as I write this, I decided to use this week’s column to spread some good — giving you a look that’s super chic and yet so comfortable that you can literally curl up in bed in it.

Yes, I know — tights are NOT pants, but when I’m on my period, I DON’T CARE. Paired appropriately, tights can look great outside the gym too. So I’m doing just that. I’m pairing these slimming Mango tights with a fitted basic grey tee, and an oversized cardigan in just the loveliest colour I’ve seen in a while *tear drops thanks to the hormones*. Don’t these pieces just ooze ease and fluidity?

Add on those cute AF pom-pom gladiators from Koovs (I’m going through a pom-pom shoe phase; I just desperately need to go for a pedi!), and the funky ombré cat-eye shades from Forever New (you know, for all those moments you do NOT want to make eye contact with ANYONE), and you’ve got yourself quite the casual chic look.

And since you already know our love for pops of colours, this Parfois coral textured sling bag does just that — don’t you just LOVE that colour?

So there you go — a fun, stylish but most importantly, comfortable look for those days when you want to kill everyone in sight but can’t because you know you wouldn’t survive a day in prison (the toilets, hello!). I’m going to go back to curling up into a ball. See y’all next week!
