Boi’s Budget Buys: Anushka’s ADHM-Inspired Look

Boi’s Budget Buys: Anushka’s ADHM-Inspired Look

One universal fashion problem for most girls is, “What do I wear today?” This question has the power to reduce us to a hysterical mess. Fashionista or not, nobody wants sartorial answers that cost a fortune. And let’s just be honest, you’re THE style star if you know how to dress to the nines on a budget. So I’ve taken up this Herculean task: every Saturday, I’ll round up a budget-friendly ensemble for you, all BELOW Rs 10,000. Yes! It’s going to be an entire outfit — from head-to-toe — without breaking the bank. Quite a challenge, right? Scroll down to shop this budget ensemble, and don’t forget to come back every Saturday to discover an outfit that’s yet another steal!

So amidst much controversy, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil finally released last week, and opened to a bunch of mixed reviews. I watched it a couple of days ago and, I won’t lie, I got the #Feels. Of course, the film is flawed, but I enjoyed it. But even more than the plot and characters, I think I enjoyed the styling of the film, specifically the female protagonists’ — even more specifically, Anushka Sharma’s boho-chic, semi-desi style #Love. While Aishwarya looked stunning too (does the woman not age?), Anushka easy-breezy, edgy style was so cool and so doable — even for us non-designer peeps. So it felt about right to curate a budget look inspired by her look this week. Plus, given the season — party + onset of winter — the look fits right in.

I truly think ethnic wear is underrated. Kurtas, shararas, lehengas and sarees can look hot, pretty, sexy, cool, and so many things, all at once. Add some jhumkis, and I’m sold. So the idea behind this look, as Manish Malhotra told us too, was to keep it stylish yet relateable — full points on that. Skinny jeans (you can try distressed skinnies too) with a bright, flowy kurta, and a pair of silver jhumkis come together to give off the perfect relaxed vibe — a look you can pull off just about anywhere. Add the badass leather jacket (give a bomber or a cropped jacket a go too, with this look), and the ankle boots, and what you’ve got is a contemporary, boho, biker-chic, unpredictable ensemble that has a vibrant personality — can you say yay?

I’d suggest keeping your makeup minimal for this look — lots of kajal, generous coats of mascara, some light blush to give your skin a glow, and nude lipstick — a.k.a. Alizeh! I’ve already swiped my card, waiting for my package to come in. How about you? Are you going to give the Alizeh look a go? Send us your photos STAT!
