Boi’s Budget Buys: The Summer Lovin’ Ensemble
One universal fashion problem for most girls is, “What do I wear today?” This question has the power to reduce us to a hysterical mess. Fashionista or not, nobody wants sartorial answers that cost a fortune. And let’s just be honest, you’re THE style star if you know how to dress to the nines on a budget. So I’ve taken up this Herculean task: every Saturday, I’ll round up a budget-friendly ensemble for you, all BELOW Rs 10,000. Yes! It’s going to be an entire outfit — from head-to-toe — without breaking the bank. Quite a challenge, right? Scroll down to shop this budget ensemble, and don’t forget to come back every Saturday to discover an outfit that’s yet another steal!
I know everyone hates summer and, don’t get me wrong, I do too. Who likes being sweaty and sticky all the live long day? BUT, and yes there is a but, I choose summer over winter any day.
I visited London last year, apparently during their summer season, and I was quite unpleasantly surprised. Clearly the Londoners do not know the meaning of warmth. I roamed around in borrowed layers (obviously, living in Bombay, I own nothing to combat that kind of weather), my nose continuously cold, and generally feeling weather-miserable. Thankfully, the company and the parks more than made up for it.
More recently, I went to the Arab emirate of Ras Al Khaimah last month, and ahhh…bliss happened. Yes, it was hot, but the sun, the sand, the sea, and me in my bikini and summer dresses — the good life.
I think I largely enjoy summer as much as I do because of the season’s fashion opportunities. My skin actually behaves better in warm weather as opposed to cold, and I much prefer lighter, clothes than having to bundle up (this may be an unresolved childhood issue, because I lived in Chicago till I was about 6 years old, and when it snowed, my mother would bundle me up, and then my sister would push me down in the snow so I went rolling down like a snowball. Not happy Di, if you’re reading this.).
For me, summer is about dresses, light layers, sandals and sneakers, and fun accessories. Exactly what I’m channeling in this week’s budget look.
As I’ve mentioned multiple times in the past, I’m a pretty tiny person. So I’ve always been fascinated by maxi dresses because precious few actually fit me, in terms of the length. So I’ve picked out this striped, fitted maxi dress from Next to make a point. Point made…I think.
Unless you want to melt into a literal puddle in the Indian heat, denim jackets are a big no-no this season. Instead layer up with a cool denim shirt, like this one I picked out from Zara — no muss, no fuss.
Now comes the fun part — accessorising the ensemble. Sneakers are a no-brainer here, because we ain’t getting over those any time soon. But it’s these embellished ones from Koovs that caught my heart. Look how pretty!
Complementing the dress is the cute, pastel Caprese sling bag with a bow — don’t miss the studded detailing. Sunglasses are, of course, a must in summer, so I went with these round-framed ones by Style Fiesta.
And finally, I’m going through a bit of a fusion phase, where I LOVE pairing ethnic jhumkis and neckpieces with my regular, western wear. Believe me when I tell you, the effect is pretty head-turning, if I do say so myself.
So with this cool, casual summer outfit, I’ve added a pair of dangly jhumkis from Voylla. And voila! (see what I did there?) You have a relaxed, stylish brunch look that will make you look good and feel cool.
What do you think? Are there any look you want me to break down to fit your budget? Shoot! Tell me in the comments below. Till then, enjoy the glorious summer sun, y’all!
